It's been a slow week. I've been kinda sick all weekend, but it's not been too bad. About the biggest thing to report is that the family celebrated my mom's 50th birthday over the weekend. What's more, my aunt got married Tuesday. In terms of my family, it's been quite a weekend.
I'm sad to report that I was unable to sell the eight Nintendo DS's I had and was forced to return them to the store and get my money back. It was a crappy situation, but they just wouldn't have turned a profit online. Everyone who was willing to pay $200 for one after Christmas already did so. The holidays are over so now demand is down, the market is flooded and the shortage of the things is nearly over. Yea, now is the time to just get out of the market and kick back.
With my short film, "Those Abandoned," all done and turned in, I've been very bored lately. For three solid weeks, every moment I had was spent working on that movie. Now that it's done and I don't have any new hobby-projects lined up, I'm rather bored. And the Oscars on Sunday were kind of a rip. Neither "Children of Men" or "Cars", my favorite movies of 2006, won a single award. I'm truly hurt that the industry felt "Happy Feet" was a better movie than "Cars." To be honest, I haven't seen "Happy Feet", but I'm pretty sure that it's a vapid, plotless affair aimed specifically at the very-young. I don't even know what the plot of the film is because all the trailers I've seen for it are two minutes of penguins dancing and singing. Any movie that's advertised that way says to me that the marketing people were so lost as to how to advertise the movie that they gave up and just played to children.
To make matters worse,
check out how bad the cover art for the "Children of Men" DVD release is. Yea. It's an image that has nothing to do with the movie. God, I hate it when marketing departments care nothing about the presentation of art. They have no idea. They've made the movie look like a "Fugitive" knockoff rather than to go with the
stunning theatrical poster artwork. I may have to just print up my own DVD cover and toss the retail one once I buy the DVD.
Ugh.
