Early this morning, the insurance people for the tow company finally called me with a settlement offer. $400. I was shocked. My car is worth around $1000, the damage is around $2500, and they're only offering me $400? Somehow, deep inside, I wasn't surprised. Insurance companies are still companies and the point of a company is to make money. They don't make money if they shell out every dime someone asks for. I was hoping for at least $800. I'd have been happy with $800. I'm sad that my car is, in the opinion of others, worth only half that. But, I should be realistic. It's just a car. An old car. A busted, near worthless car. It has a lot of sentimental value which is why I'm so distraught over such a low offer. But don't I deserve more for it? I just don't know.
I am glad that the end of this whole fiasco is only days away from finally being over. Finally, I'll be able to close this horrible mess up and be done with it all. I'll get to keep my car, which still runs like a dream, and one day soon I'll have something new sitting in my driveway. It's a shame, is all. But, soon it will all be over.
In other news, sometime today I hope to put my XL1 camcorder on eBay. You may remember this camera as
the one I bought last May and had a lot of expectations for. I planned on making insanely wonderful movies and really enjoying it. But, I've barely used it in the 10 months I've had it and it's collecting dust. Why? The camera is expensive, bulky and obsolete. Yea, sure, the quality is fantastic but it's downfall is that it lacks more modern features that come standard on today's less expensive cameras. It doesn't help that my XL1 was made in 1998 and the accessories for it are $200 a pop. The up side is that I may be able to get more for the camera than I paid for it last year ($1800) because the camera is still worth so much. My plan is to turn around and get a brand new Sony High Definition camera that's half the price/size of the XL1 and made in this millennia. Accessories (Like a wide angle lens) are very cheap for small cameras and I'd like to have a camera I can put on my desk and have at the ready for my video conferencing at the drop of a hat. That'd be wonderful.
