Medication for Dingo

Well... as most of you know, I took Dingo (my pet Cockatiel) to the vet for a general check-up. Seeing as I got him second hand, I figured it couldn't hurt to assure he is a healthy bird. Well... after $280 worth of tests, poking and prodding, he turns out to be a mostly healthy bird. A blood sample was taken and a culture was run on the blood. My bird seems to have a liver problem/disease. Doc said it may be possible Chlamydia. Now, I know you are thinking.... "your bird has an STD??" Well, I don't think they are the same things in humans and birds.

Due to the fact that my dear birdie has a liver problem, I must now treat him with an, well, I don't know if you would call it an antibiotic, but whatever, he needs medicine for a month and then another check-up to see if the problem went away. So, I go and buy his medicine (Vibramycin) and low and behold, it is in liquid form. I smile weakly when I find out I must feed it to him twice daily with a syringe. If you guys know my bird, I can't even get near the cage without him hissing at me... let alone pick him up and feed him this medicine. Oh, but rest assured, the vet said it is fruit flavored so it should make it easier... uh, yeah, right!!

So this morning I get up to give him his first dose. Like an idiot I try it without gloves first. Well, I couldn't even pick him up... he wiggled too much. Finally I get him in my grasp, but forgot to steady his head so he couldn't turn and bite me, which he proceeded to do. Ouch!! Definately drew some blood. After about 1/2 hour I figured this try and grab him thing wasn't working. I haven't even started to give him his medicine, I was just trying to pick him up....

More to come later.... I have to go to work. :o)
