Back home, and in the throes of good old con lurgy, as was to be expected. I'm not sure if I'm up for the most detailed of con reoprts, but here goes...
*SQUISH* I really wish you had been there, because we needed more people at the Connie things! AWF got nearly a full room, though, so that was good. And people seemed to like it. It really is a fantastic film and I will never be able to shut up about it either. Also, TORSTEN BARRING.
You totally need to come to the one in 2017. <3
A lot of the panels were very literary in that we discussed narratives and storytelling a lot, and that's one of the reasons why I love the con. It's all this meta rambling but we get to do it out loud and with each other! And it's so different from fandom on Tumblr or something--I was constantly thinking how weird it was that nobody really got attacked viciously and how people remained polite, whereas you know how online fandom can be. Everyone was really friendly even if they might have disagreed completely with you or even disapproved of you, and everyone respected each other. So it was great.
And who says PWPs can't have characterisation? I mean, let's face it, we read and write fanfic because of the characters. If I just want to see genitals rubbing together without characterisation, I watch porn. At the fan art panel, I tried to point out that even if it might seem demeaning to make naked manips of various characters, my angle on it is that I am actually taking something that doesn't have much characterisation (the porn) and then attaching characterisation/story/emotions to it, so I'm sort of reclaiming it for that fanficcy (and female-oriented) type of storytelling. Like, even with porn, that whole character-oriented stuff is a thing: chicks love James Deen not just because he's just one of the big cocks that can keep going on and on, but because he's got character and he treats the women as individuals.
Oh, man. You really should have been there and we just need to teleport you over the next time--and you can be as puppydoggy as you want. <3
