So, this Hannibal thing
So everybody tells me I should be watching Hannibal. Right?
Pros:
-I fancy the fucking pants off Hannibal Lecter as a character and "Hannibal" is one of my favourite novels ever (I found the others pretty dry and boring, but Hannibal was like this gloriously colourful brutal baroque explosion of sensual and evil delight)
-It seems gritty and cool and a bit different
-Everybody's talking about it and flailing madly
-Hannibal fucking Lecter, come on
Cons:
-Mads Mikkelsen creeps me the fuck out
-American show. American shows tend to give me indigestion because of reasons too numerous to list here.
-What if they totally ruin something I love? I am not sure if I could stand to watch something that messed with something I love. The risk for disappointment would be too great and then I'd be unable to enjoy the original stuff as much. I'm not good with things like that; I need things to love and escape into and it's a serious mental health issue for me. I really don't take it well when a sequel or a remake leeches the awesome out of something that used to give me pleasure:/ The movie version of Hannibal changing the ending was bad enough and I'm not sure if I've recovered from that rage yet. And IT'S BEEN TWELVE YEARS.
-I'm not sure if my brain could process a Lecter other than Hopkins, even if I know loads of actors have played him.
Also, this may be utter bullshit but I heard Tennant nearly got the part o_O He can definitely do cold psycho eyes and that's actually why I don't enjoy watching him when he does the cold dead eyes and the frowny anger. It reminds me too much of the most horrible people I've ever known and that would have probably scared me off the show as well.
But... it's Hannibal fucking Lecter.
