Sinking into the Tigris with feels and Miklos Rozsa. Help. Mostly because I found
this page with samples from the Thief of Bagdad soundtrack (scroll about halfway down) and it has THE HARBOUR THEME. And then there's
this page with recreated bits of music they never used in the movie. The princessy bits (where she wakes up and the bit where Jaffar captures her) are particularily pretty, as is the abandoned garden theme. And there's a much lighter and whimsical version of the bit where the Sultan rides around on the magical horse! Eeeeee.
God, this ridiculous movie and its shameless Romanticism and *flail*
Also, son of a bitch. I moaned about this
on Tumblr earlier, but it looks like the Criterion DVD of the movie is cropped (!) to the point where you actually can't see Jaffar's trembling fingertips when he leans in to kiss the princess:O
Criterion:
German Blu-Ray (the same source as on the Scandinavian DVD, which also shows his fingertips coming in to caress the princess's hair and her veil, and his thumb cupping her arm):
It's not as monstrous as your old pan and scan bullshit, but... the Criterion release?! The one you'd expect to be more complete? The fuck. And it's extra sucky when it removes a part of the main goddamn star's performance, especially when the trembling and the not-being-able-to-touch-the-princess stuff were deliberate directorial touches to make Jaffar a little more sympathetic. I was *wondering* why these scenes looked even more heartbreaking and tender on the Blu-Ray and I just thought it was because I could see more nuances in Connie's performance in high definition. No bloody wonder because some of those nuances were cut out entirely! Don't touch my tragic villain's tender unrequited lovewibbles, you bastards! And don't even get me started on how criminal that crap is when we're talking about a guy so famous for his hands they made entire movies about them.
*withdraws to smoosh their faces together while making sobbity kissy noises*
