Yeah, I hear the phrase was just a publicity slogan on MGM's part, but it must've been true at the time. Never been that fond of shouting it myself as I'd rather gush about him rather than fight for him (whether it's in the sense of fighting other women or in the sense of trying to show the world what a beautiful thing he was)! I know it's a thing for several of his fans, just not me. I'm the sort of pathetic perverted bastard who is more likely to be found writhing on the floor screaming "TAKE ME, TORSTEN BARRING" or gasping "JAFFAR!" in the throes of erotic ecstasy. Even if screaming is a bit difficult if you have Torsten's hands around your throat and oh God, I should go. See, now I'm inflicting all the filth that's normally in my tags upon you because it's great to be able to chat about Connie on LJ (I much prefer this place for conversation as Tumblr is kind of rubbish for that).
I'll see what I can do about the uploads. The Last Performance has only recently come out on DVD and I'm looking for a decent rip of it so I can post the best-quality version possible. My own copy is a bit smudgy and old. And I've got a rather muddy archive copy of Hussar, but I'll see if I can upload that next when time permits. It's worth it for the tight black uniform alone. They *really* ought to take those early 30s sound films of his and restore them and release them with English subs.
My Connie film recs/mini-reviews post lists nearly all of the films I've got copies of, so if there's anything there you'd like to see uploaded, just let me know. It's really no trouble at all because I just want others to discover this amazing man and his sound films in particular. Most people know him from the silents and the internet's got a decent enough collection of articles about what an amazing human being he was, but not that many people are aware of what a presence he was in the sound films, I think. Talk aobut a sex panther.
