There is a God. And she hates me.

So, you guys know there are these two historical periods I have a gigantic boner for, right?

Right?

Only two periods, neither of which are nearly as popular obsession-wise as the, say, Regency or Victorian eras are? I mean, only I and Mark Gatiss have a boner for the 17th century, it seems. And all the political issues have frightened most history nerds off medieval Persia these days.

And I am deeply obsessed with both. Have been so for years. Mention either, and you will have launched an hours-long Grouseramble. Flash me a costume from either era and you can reduce me into a whimpering puddle of lust in seconds. But again, it's far less likely for an actor to appear in dramas set in both eras than to appear in bazillions of Victorian costume dramas.

So why do both of these things exist?

WHY?

P.S. I know someone's going to mention Christopher Lee any minute, and yes, I know. And I also know he only did that terrible Arabian Adventure thing because he adored Connie as Jaffar so much and wanted to be like him. Help.

P.P.S. Did I link to that time Connie quoted actual medieval Persian poetry? Kill me? Now?
