Ok, fuckit, I am desperate. I'm still writing this Thief of Bagdad porn fic and I am struggling with terms for female genitalia that wouldn't sound medical or corny or too modern. "Pussy", while my favourite in general, is right out because it sounds too modern. "Cunt" is too hard and sweary and doesn't fit the romance novel tone--it'd sound abusive. And only Loki can get away with "quim". I've used "cunny" once or twice from the vizier because he wants to be a bit dirty and still sweet, but I can't imagine the dainty virgin princess using a word like that. In fact, I can't think of the dainty virgin princess using anything that wouldn't be corny. I've used "mound" and "folds" and "flesh" and "slit" just "her" to work around things, and however medical, have used "clitoris" because like fuck am I going to call it a "nub of flesh" all throughout or the too-modern "clit". I'm veering towards "labia" in one scene because it's less corny than "nether lips" and stuff. "Vulva" is in there once, I think. But. DAMN EVERYTHING. What the hell should I use? What... what on earth would a dainty medieval princess call her bits when it's in her POV? I mean, pussies and clits are fine in modern fic, but what do you do when it's medieval?
It's going to be seriously romance-novely in tone and vocabulary and tropery anyway, because that fits the source material and it being, well, medieval 1001 Nights stuff. So there's an advance warning for anyone who's considering reading it and is used to my more modern and hardcore kinky smut. But what the hell am I going to call her junk?
Poll Decide upon a medieval princess's genitalia
P.S. The princess has actually has sex ed. Because that'd be historically accurate. Still not sure if this helps, as all those old sex words would be corny to a 21st century reader.
