*stabs laptop*

Oh, joy. Those lovely startup problems I had? They're still there even when I've tried to reinstall Windows. Which means it's a hardware problem. And it's probably not the battery or the AC adapter any more. And if it really isn't, the motherboard is useless and I might have to get a new laptop entirely. *Seriously*. I've only had the fucker for a ( Read more... )

If it's from start-up, then try looking at the memory first. Also the hard-drive, as it could be a knackered boot sector causing the issue - even replacing them both is cheaper than a new laptop, yes?

I don't usually do computer support advice on my day off, but I like you, so I'll make an exception.

Hell, if you didn't live so far away, I'd see if I could, ahem, 'acquire' some components for you. ;)

I did a disk check a couple of times, so it's probably not the HD--I wiped it and tried to reinstall Windows, but that died in the middle of it all again. Also, hilariously, since I was doing it from the recovery partition and because I don't have a Vista disc, I can't do a new install now that it's fucked. I rang up a couple of places and they said it's most likely to be a motherboard/power problem, so fuck knows. I had power problems before and had to replace the battery and the adapter, so it might be that--but now it might be b0rked beyond repair. And the problem is, I was stupid enough to start fiddling during the weekend, so I can't even take the bugger in for repairs/get new hardware before Monday:(. Bah. At least I made backups.

BRING ME TOBIAS MOTHERFUCKING VAUGHN. HE COULD FIX THIS BULLSHIT.

Man, I'm not enjoying this at all. I can only reinstall Windows halfway before the fucker crashes on me. The stress and having to crouch at the old desktop computer are doing my back in. THIS IS NOT GOOD.

If you haven't already done so it might be worth checking that none of the RAM chips have worked a bit loose.

That might be an issue, yeah. But I can't actually get the bugger open myself (the last time I upgraded the RAM, I had to have a guy at the computer shop do it and even he couldn't get all the screws off but had to slip the extra memory in under the cover). So I'm going to have to wait until Monday:(. Buggering bollocks. I guess I deserve it for being stupid enough to attempt repairs myself on a weekend.
