Devil's cut Ho
If anyone's been watching Devil's Ho on Finnish telly, don't bother. Seriously. I'll... I'll lend you the DVDs or something.
It's been edited so badly that major plot points and character reveals have been left out. You don't learn about the Harry/Sexby animosity because they cut the scene where he interrupts Angelica and Shirtless!Sexby. You don't see the stuff that goes on in court (including bits like black children paraded around as toys). All the love scenes were cut, choppily, and a huge amount of important dialogue was missing. Especially about why Harry thought Angelica was wicked for making noises and stuff, and Angelica's lines when she defended herself? Two thirds were cut. And Sexby is made even more quiet and we never get to learn about him--that story he tells of his childhood, with the bog bodies? Cut completely. Oh, and naked swimming? Cut--we never see Angelica actually going swimming and what Sexby says to her. *facepalm* And lots of Rainsborough/Angelica stuff was cut, too. *sigh*
Oh, and yeah, Sexby's vision in the battlefield, where he lies wounded amongst the dead? Cut. They only show the bit with Angelica in, but not the gorgeous and eerie vision he has of soldiers' souls rising up and walking away, singing hymns. But of course, THE STUPID DEVIL is left in and is never cut out. *headdesky*
Small edits--okay. But this is even worse than the LoM stuff. It's *insane*. It completely destroys the character dynamics and makes the pace of the story really choppy and hectic and we don't get time to see things developing, or learn about the characters. Graaaaah. It's like a trailer, now, not a miniseries.
If you had a Baroque painting, would you cut large pieces and whole characters out of it because it wouldn't fit on your wall otherwise? I don't think so. Forfuckssakes.
Why, yes, I *am* angry because it's so rare to have good, well-written television in the first place, and then when it gets raped and mutilated? Of course I'm pissed off. Devil's Whore was my favourite TV series last year, too, because it had everything. Even if I lulzingly reduce it to "John Simm with a motherfucking rapier" at times, it's one hell of a series. And doesn't deserve to be chopped. It's not something dreary and boring that goes on and on forever, but it's so tightly written that if you take anything out, it'll just fall apart. *sigh*
Whether it's the distributor or YLE who are doing this, Sexby needs to shove an iron fist up their arses. *seriously*.
