Best slumber parties, ever, and a Photoshop question

Mar 30, 2009 20:17

Agent Provocateur ad campaign of win. Ok, so, it is a bit tacky, but the sheer scale of those pics is quite impressive, and I want to attend those parties. (Might be NSFW, as these are sexy underwear ads.)

But what I was wondering was how people get those sorts of colour schemes going in Photoshop? I was just looking for tutorials on how to do them, to get that sort of shininess and richness of colour and depth. I can tell there's some desaturation going on in some of the tones--especially the pirate and occult ones. And I have no idea how they got that lovely golden glow on the middle one.

I'm guessing some of it is HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and some of it is to do with Curves fiddlage? I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to do that stuff without actually having to take three different photographs, or having to download extra software besides Photoshop. I know I saw a tutorial *somewhere* for doing that with just one pic, but couldn't quite get it to work. And that desaturation and sharpening trick certainly isn't all photography. AND I LIKE THOSE DAMN COLOUR SCHEMES.

But meh, there should be a way of getting results like that in Photoshop only, shouldn't there? I don't have a posh digital camera or anything. Although if it comes to having to get new software, I'm tempted to learn even that, just because the results are so damn stunning. Problem is, you'd obviously need high-quality photos to experiment on. And EVERY BLOODY TUTORIAL USES DIFFERENT SOFTWARE and wah. Anyone have any ideas on how to get started?

photoshop, help?
