The first
hd-eighthyear fest just finished, and I was so excited to read fics from my favorite era every day! Here are my favorites from the fest.
Dear Diary by
awickedmemory ( PG | 20,000 )
Summary: //This can’t possibly go worse than the last time I kept a diary. //
After the war, Harry picks up a journal to write in… and it writes back. Luckily, it’s not a Horcrux on the other end this time.
This was a terrific story, and so clever and well written. I loved the way the author uses their diary conversations to have them get to know and like each other even before they start interacting again in real life.
Draco figures out that he's writing to Harry immediately, but Harry is in the dark. But it makes so much sense, because Draco is understandably reticent with the information he relays - not quick to trust - while Harry just barrels on ahead with little concern for anonymity and wearing his heart on his sleeve. Draco ends up giving Harry advice on how to woo him, and it's wonderfuly sweet, even as the guilt is gnawing away at Draco for the deception. The way the confessions finally come out in the end is wonderful and so emotionally satisfying.

Two Weeks and Four Walls by
fantasyfiend09 ( R | 7,000 )
Summary: Hannah Abbott brought an unusual souvenir back from holiday and shared it with her study group.
This was just an utterly delightful story! I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Draco and Harry are put into quarantine together for two weeks after having been exposed to the same infectious disease, and they go from deliberately ignoring each other, to nursing each other through their respective illnesses, to cautious romantic interest.
I loved the wry humor in Draco's inner thoughts, and adored the awkward but determined way Harry went about finding out if Draco reciprocated his interest in the end. Everything felt so reasonable and in character and just charming all around.

Of Infinite Longings by
lauren3210 ( R | 6,600 )
Summary: Draco likes books. Harry doesn’t, but he thinks he might like Draco.
Written beautifully, and draws the reader into these lovely scenes so nicely. I especially loved the Satisfactory Bookmark Episode. That was exellent :) Bibliophile!Draco is such a treat!
It Was Always You by
citrus_lime ( PG-13 | ART + drabble )
Summary: Harry would curse himself if he were ever to admit that he has started to enjoy the routine with Malfoy: wake up, shower, and then carry Malfoy's books and bag as they go to breakfast together. Malfoy is becoming more... tolerable, really, as time goes on. He doesn't ask for ridiculous things such as telling Harry to dab Malfoy's mouth after eating or fan him when the weather is too hot.
Also, Malfoy has started to smile around Harry, especially when Harry gives a sarcastic remark about something. Apparently Malfoy has dimples on his cheeks.
This artwork is beautiful! I just love it. And the stone arches in the background look perfectly like how we imagine Hogwarts - and incidentally remind me so much of
Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, where they filmed a brief scene from the 1995 P&P :) The drabble is sweet and lovely and a nice accompaniment.
