These are my thoughts on the season finale.

I've put them below a cut for those who have yet to see the finale.  My thoughts contain HUGE spoilers!

WTF!!!!

I'm sorry but WTF! You can't kill Marian! She's an important part of the Robin Hood story.  She's part of the legend.  So you can't bloody kill her!  And if she is indeed back for next series, I ( Read more... )

I was SO gutted that Carter got killed off. With Will and Djac staying behind, Carter would have made a brilliant new addition to the gang. One of my main pet peeves with Season 2 was the fact that each week Robin was seemingly gaining new allies, only to continually just let them leave. Hello! Robin should be taking all the help he can get!

The finale was good, but I hoped it would have been better. I would have liked for all of Robin's allies from England to somehow come to his rescue, working as a team for the good of the King. Furthermore, although Allan is my favourite character, I really was wishing him to die. I could just imagine him jumping in the way of a sword to save Robin at the end, during the heat of battle, with the two having a last-breath heart to heart, apologising, as the stunned gang sadly watch on.

Guy killing Marian was a nice twist, but it's left the story at an extremely awkward point. Personally, I would have loved to have seen Guy save Marian's life, or even Robin's or the King's, to prove his love to her. Through all of season 2 they've eluded to him being not-so-evil after all, to only shatter it in the finale. Excuse me, Writers, but what?

However, my biggest issue with the finale is still definitely Carter-related, but not the fact he died; instead, it's the fact that everyone just seemed to have forgotten he existed. Not one person stopped to ask, "Hey, where's Carter?", as they all came together in the courtyard. No one mentioned his bravery, his disappearance or later even his death. Not one! When you think about it, Carter was a big character in terms of narrative progression, and a catalyst for a lot of big events in the story (delivering Robin's message on his return to the King, his freeing of the gang in the desert, explaining Robin's holy-land background, etc). As far as I can tell, the only indication we get of his passing is of a single grave (next to Marian's) that is marked with an English shield. Is that HONESTLY supposed to represent Carter? That could mean anyone! Were the script writer's that ignorant (or lazy?) to overlook something that big? I mean, come on, guys!

Carter had great potential for further development, and it really seems like it's been squandered. For a character who had the best quote of the entire series ("He's not crying; he's laughing on the wrong side of his face,"), I expected better. I HOPED for better. :(
