AFTER LOVE
(chapter 03)

It has been three days since ChanHee lived with JunSu. JunSu enjoyed every day that he had with the boy. Tomorrow would be the day that YooChun got back. Though he was scared of the reunion, he reminded himself to stay calm.

“Umma! You forgot something!” ChanHee said as he pulled the warm blanket over his body.

JunSu stopped when he was about to turn the knob of ChanHee’s bedroom door. “What’s that?” JunSu turned to look at his ChanHee.

“The goodnight kissy~” ChanHee pouted his lips.

“You’re so funny, ChanHee…” and he walked closer to his son once again. He kissed him on his forehead and whispered a good-night.

“Umma…” ChanHee tugged JunSu’s shirt, “Don’t leave me…” he said softly, “Even though appa got back, I want you to be with me as my umma…”

JunSu frowned a bit, his brain tried to understand what the boy’s words meant.

“Whatever appa will call you, though appa will dislike you if he sees you, you will be always my umma,”

JunSu smiled softly. His heart melted of the boy’s words.

“And you always will be my favorite son though I will have other children…”

ChanHee’s lips formed a bright smile, “Umma,” he called JunSu once again. “Do you love TaeYeon seonsaengnim?”

JunSu eyebrows knitted together, “I think I do,”

“You don’t love her, do you? You never kissed her on the lips and your eyes never showed the love. It is only care…”

“You’re only kid, ChanHee-yah…” JunSu chuckled at the boy’s statement. “I’m trying to love her as much as she loves me. Though I don’t love her yet, I like her so much. Why do you ask?”

“Poor TaeYeon, she will be hurt like my umma,” JunSu tilted his head, “The kind of look that I see in your eyes is the same as appa’s look whenever he sees my umma.” JunSu’s lips mouthed an ‘O’.

So YooChun never loved YooNa? Then what’s with this GaHee girl? JunSu thought curiously.

“I hope TaeYeon seonsaengnim won’t cry in the middle of the night…” ChanHee added, making JunSu feel guilty, “And I hope umma can be concerned of his own heart, ne Umma?” JunSu could only smile.

“Ah~” ChanHee cuddled JunSu’s Mickey Mouse plushie, “Good-night umma…”

“Good-night, my Son…” JunSu kissed ChanHee’s forehead again and stood up to walk out of the boy’s room.

JunSu let ChanHee sleep in his bedroom while JunSu slept in the guest room. After he closed the door, JunSu laid himself on the bed tiredly. His eyes were sleepy but his mind was still thinking about ChanHee’s words. About the look in his eyes was the same as YooChun’s. About YooNa’s sudden death, about YooChun’s new wife named GaHee. About everything…

Because of the many questions plaguing JunSu’s mind last night, he couldn’t get proper sleep, he woke up too early in the morning. JunSu sat on the white comfy couch, enjoying the view of the rain which was pouring outside. The cup of hot chocolate that he held sent warmth to his body.

“Umma…”

JunSu was taken aback by ChanHee’s calling. He turned his body a bit to extend his hand, offering the young boy his embrace, “Wanna hug umma, ChanHee?”

ChanHee smiled and came closer to his umma. He crawled on JunSu’s lap and leaned his head on JunSu’s chest. “Warm…” he praised, circling his hand on JunSu’s waist. JunSu smiled and rubbed the boy’s back. “Umma,” he heard ChanHee called him again.

“Hm?” JunSu hummed in question.

“Appa called me last night and he told me that he arrived already…”

JunSu stayed silent, wanting the younger’s further explanation.

“He told me that he would pick me up after school, but I don’t want to go home, Umma..”

JunSu exhaled his breath. He also never wanted to be apart with his beloved son even though he and ChanHee weren’t related by blood. He was used to ChanHee’s presence and it comforted him, he makes him laugh, he brightens his day, all these makes him want ChanHee to always be with him. JunSu ran his finger in ChanHee’s hair and caressed it lovingly, “But Appa is back ChanHee, and he will stay at home so…”

“That Gahee stays at home longer than Appa,” ChanHee protested, “What if she kicks me again? What if she doesn’t treat me well at all? I’m scared, Umma…”

‘So…GaHee is the bitch that married YooChun..’ JunSu concluded.

JunSu kissed ChanHee’s forehead before convincing him. “She won’t ChanHee..Your Appa will be there to protect you,” he wiped the tears which dropped on ChanHee’s cheek. “Listen, I promise to protect you too. If your Appa isn’t there…I’ll be there…okay?”

ChanHee nodded obediently. “Umma, Will you meet my Appa after school? You said that you wanted to talk to him…”

JunSu really wanted to say ‘No’. He wouldn’t want to be hurt again after seeing YooChun. But his mind seemed to be contradicting. “I’ll meet him after school,” he promised ChanHee.

JunSu could understand why he promised ChanHee. After all, he loves ChanHee like his own son. He wants to protect ChanHee no matter what. He gave up his pride to meet YooChun for ChanHee. Unknowingly to him, this boy gave him a big influence.

“Knock…knock…”

JunSu raised his eyebrow, looking into the front door curiously. Who would come this early in the morning? He frowned. JunSu gestured to ChanHee to move so he could walk to open the door.

As he turned the knob down, his eyes widened in surprise.

“Y..YooChun?”

“Su?”

Neither YooChun or JunSu expected that they would meet in this kind of situation.

ChanHee who was curious of the guest, walked to the living room, where the front door was located. “Appa?” he smiled brightly and ran to meet his appa.

JunSu moved aside to let YooChun come in. YooChun lifted ChanHee up as the boy jumped at him.

He tried hard to calm himself down. Somehow, he dropped cold sweats.

“Appa, why did you come here? You told me that you’ll pick me up at school, not in JunSu seosaengnim’s house,” questioned ChanHee.

“I’m just missing you badly, ChanHee-yah…” he pinched ChanHee’s cheek lightly while glancing at JunSu secretly.

JunSu gazed at the happy ChanHee. He avoided YooChun’s eyes, he just…wasn’t ready yet.

“ChanHee, I’ll pack your things while you have your appa here, okay?” JunSu suggested.

“Umma, wait!” ChanHee grabbed JunSu’s hand. That scene made YooChun’s frown. He was confused since ChanHee called JunSu by ‘umma’. “I haven’t introduced you to my Appa!” ChanHee pulled JunSu closer and brought his hand to meet YooChun’s hand.

“Listen Appa, he is my teacher and his name is Kim JunSu. He is my umma and I don’t care whatever you will say to my decision!” ChanHee said in serious tone.

YooChun thought for a while and chuckled lightly. Then he pinched ChanHee’s cheek, “So he will automatically be addressed as my wife?” he teased.

JunSu seemed uncomfortable with the teasing knowing that YooChun was a sweet talker.
“I’m not-,” he refused and quickly added, “But I’m still your umma, ChanHee-yah~” as he found the pouting ChanHee.

“Well! And this is my Appa, Park YooChun. He is the CEO in PYC Corporation. He is always busy and never has any time for his son, me, Park ChanHee.” JunSu giggled at the way ChanHee introduced his appa. He found it cute.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Park…” he greeted in formally.

“Now I’ll let the two of you to get to know each other while I pack my things!” ChanHee jumped to the floor and left the two men behind him.

JunSu felt awkward, he didn’t know how to act or speak normally to YooChun. It was their first meeting after being separated for two years.

“Y..You can sit down on the…” JunSu’s lines were cut by YooChun’s lips on his. JunSu was shocked and pushed YooChun away roughly. “Wh…what are you doing?!” he nearly shouted. YooChun’s face showed disappointment. He just…missed JunSu badly and couldn’t control himself to refuse the urge to hug JunSu, to touch him, to kiss him, to love him…

“Sorry…” YooChun replied weakly. He tried his best to hold his tears. “I’ll sit down then,” he walked to the couch and sat on it. He was a coward…he wasn’t brave enough to face JunSu. To face the fact that JunSu might be over him. On his mind, he kept telling that JunSu is still in love with him and the earlier rejection is just due from shock because of the long lost contact.

As JunSu sat on the couch, YooChun started to feel better. He smiled at JunSu who was caught glancing at him. “How do you do?” he asked trying to warm the cold atmosphere.

JunSu shrugged, “As always, fine.” He answered. “You?”

“Not as fine as you are,” JunSu’s eyebrow knitted together at YooChun’s reply. “Busy with work.” YooChun added, receiving JunSu’s nod. “Sorry, ChanHee’s disturbing you,”

JunSu shook his head. For him, ChanHee never would be a burden. “He’s a good boy you know? And he’s smart…”

YooChun chuckled, “He’s my boy after all,” JunSu nodded.

“YooNa must be happy for having him,” stated JunSu carefully. He did say it in purpose to fulfill his curiousity. Somehow, he wished YooChun would open up to him.

JunSu didn’t miss the slight change in YooChun’s face. His smiling face has faded. JunSu also realized that YooChun had changed a lot. His muscles were gone…YooChun’s chubby cheek were thin and bony. YooChun was skinnier than the last time JunSu saw him. His hair was longer than before however his handsomeness still affected JunSu.

“YooNa died…” YooChun spoke softly. “She died a few days after you left me. The doctor said that it was bone-cancer.”

JunSu felt guilty. He promised to not ask further.

“She kept that secret from me. She didn’t want to make me worried.” A pause. “I’m…I’m such a bastard…” YooChun’s eyes started to get blurry. Tears dropped on his pointy cheek.

JunSu stopped himself to not feel anything beyond sadness. His life was better than YooChun’s life.

“Then my parents thought that ChanHee might feel lonely.” YooChun continued. “They forced me to marry the daughter of their friend, GaHee.” YooChun wiped his own tears, “She’s friendly and kind. She is a good mother for ChanHee.”

Somehow, those words tugged at JunSu’s heart. It felt wrong. “ChanHee told me otherwise,”

YooChun tilted his head, “What do you mean?”

“The reason that ChanHee stayed here is that his mother treats him harshly.” JunSu stated.

“No-I…I believe in GaHee. She won’t do that…”

JunSu sighed, “I don’t know her though,”

YooChun leaned his back on the couch, “But she left me…” “Everyone tends to leave me, don’t they? Like you, YooNa, ChanHee…”

“GaHee left you?”

“When I got back home, I found nobody. That’s why I picked ChanHee earlier.”

“Oh,” JunSu felt his heart thumps. He didn’t even know why. “Since you love her and she…”

“No,” JunSu gulped as he heard YooChun’s interrupt, “No, I never loved anyone else,”

“You loved YooNa”

YooChun looked on JunSu in the eyes, “I like YooNa, but I still love ‘that’ person whom my heart belongs to”

JunSu sighed. No-he had been so stupid to catch what’s the meaning of those words. “We’re over, YooChun…”

“But I know you still love me, Su…”

“No, I don’t love you.”

“Then why did you help my son?”

“Because he needed it, Chun-ah…and you have GaHee, I didn’t even know he is your son”

“That’s not the point, Su. We did have an affair when I was married to YooNa.”

“I have a girlfriend now.”

“….”

“She changed my life, YooChun and I love her,”

“You do?” JunSu nodded confidently. “You moved on…”

JunSu really wanted to punch himself. How could he hurt YooChun? YooChun had been hurt and he made it worse?

“We are still friends…”

YooChun shook his head, “We were never friends, Su…you were my…”

“Appa! Umma!”

The two quickly smiled to the boy who called them. “ChanHee-yah~” they replied in unison.

“Umma, will I meet you in school this morning?” JunSu nodded, “Then I’ll see you at class!” he hugged JunSu tightly. “I’ll miss you, Umma…” he whined cutely. JunSu rubbed his back gently. “I’ll miss you too,” JunSu admitted.

After a few minutes, ChanHee pulled away and bid goodbye to JunSu. JunSu sent them to the front door and waved to ChanHee when the boy shouted JunSu’s name as the car went away. JunSu sighed heavily, somehow he didn’t feel well. He decided to give a call to TaeYeon to inform her that he was sick and couldn’t teach his class for today.
