There are actually other female Wild fans on the internet. In fandom. Consider my mind blown. ;)
In honour of my actually posting on a friending meme (
silver_spotted, all your fault) I feel like I should actually write something on here to prove that I didn't die between Christmas and now. So, for lack of anything better to say, I will complain vociferously and at length about Gone with the Wind.
The next time I decide to watch a film just because everyone else has seen it and because it is vaguely related to my field of study, I will have to remember to keep the painkillers on hand. That had to be the least satisfying movie I've seen this year, and considering the last movie I watched was a HOCKEY MUSICAL, that's saying a lot.
...Well, the hockey musical was awesome. But that's beside the point.
Was that supposed to be a happy ending? Or was that merely the obvious culmination of FOUR HOURS of disaster after disaster after disaster? Scarlet was one of the least likable female protagonists I've ever encountered - there was not a single point in the movie where I actually liked her. Even at the end, when she finally realizes she's in love with her husband (her THIRD HUSBAND) she's selfish and stupid.
And that's not even starting on the damn plot! I know all that Lost Cause crap was very popular when the movie was made, but that still doesn't make me any happier to watch hours of happy, stupid, dedicated slaves (treated better than the convicts, don'tcha know!) choose to fight for the confederacy. I can now see why the movie is considered the epitome of old south romanticism. Ugh.
Watching it right after finishing Soul by Soul by Walter Johnson was probably a bad choice of timing, but eh, if you're going to be morally outraged, you might as well go all the way, right?
All in all, it would have been much improved by being an entirely different movie. Not one I'll be adding to my collection.
...I'm supposed to meet with my supervisor this morning. In... oh, 8.5 hours. Think I should go to sleep soon?
