I hate to ask, but does anyone have some space I could stay in for a little while? The damn unicorns are back, and there are more of them. If Toushi and I are home at the same time, it's like a murder scene as soon as I step in the door.
Um. I know this will sound odd, but I do have room, and I should probably talk to you in any case. I met Toushi, and I... think we all come from the same place. There is me and Lea in the flat, but there are unused beds. If you'd like.
I may have a place if I can convince Toushi that he doesn't need to sleep outside in the middle of winter, but I'd be happy to talk to you, especially if you're right about that. He mentioned meeting you the other day.
In that time, did you ever meet a [the pen line wavers for a minute] I'm getting all these little hints that I may have been here before. And you are from the same place as Toushi, and now it seems that I am, too. Was there ever a girl, maybe sixteen or seventeen, with long chestnut hair, that came from where you do?
[It's been dark for some time as Kagerou hurries over to Wellspring Island, sitting down in the waiting area so as not to disturb the goings-on of Medical. She tucks her coat in her lap and settles. Her long auburn plait hangs down her back today, her hair held from her face by the star-shaped pins.
She has a vague idea of what Kazahana looks like, but will ultimately have to rely on the other girl recognising her--or not. In either case, the issue at hand will be confirmed.]
[She's not completely without work to do as the end of her shift draws closer, but one of the benefits of being a senior medic is handing off the more annoying things to the interns. Not that Kazahana abuses her position, but she's feeling especially antsy tonight. Toushi's mention of a girl who could be from their world had intrigued her, but she'd had no idea that it might be someone they'd met before.
On the way back from the file room, she caught sight of a girl sitting uncertainly--a familiar orange-haired girl.]
Nova! It is you!
I'm sorry, I shouldn't say it like that...you're Kagerou, right? We've--met before.
[Her expression twitches before she can help it--to be called so familiarly a name that is altogether strange is jarring. She smooths her face into a somewhat nervous smile.]
You're Kazahana, right? And yes, I'm Kagerou. Or... I am now. I don't know how any of this is really possible, but...
[She stands up in a sudden motion.]
I'm sorry. Toushi told me you used to know him, too, from before. It must be odd for you, too. I don't think I've... ever seen you before. You know. Not that I remember much.
[She looks just the same as before--no, almost the same. It's been over a year since Kazahana saw Nova, but even though her memories have faded a little, Kagerou looks a little older, even though physically she's just the same. It's something in her eyes.]
You were here before, quite a while ago. We didn't know each other well, but I'd found out that you were from the same place not long before you were gone.
Do you want to talk someplace more private? I think one of the exam rooms is free.
That would be nice, thank you. I don't think we would... Yes, that's better.
[She follows Kazahana without further comment, considering the aura of polite efficiency around the girl--woman, she mentally corrects herself. Kazahana doesn't look much older than her, but she has an aura of experience she can't quite put her finger on. She's obviously also powerful, Kagerou understands, the same tint of strength to her that Toushi carries, however more subdued and refined.
[Once they reach the exam room, she seats herself in an available chair and looks at Kazahana again.]
I'm not... really sure what I'm looking for. Toushi told me there were others who were... with him, in whatever place we came from. So tell me what you can, and I can go from there.
