I did it. I caved and picked up a new iPad (16GB + 3G) this last Friday. Absolutely loving it. I was not in the market for one when it first came out, but then the new job came up and realizing there may be a few weeks with no computer while moving to Seattle next month. This was cheaper than a new laptop (old one belongs to work and gets turned in this Friday) and I've now postponed upgrading the home iMac. So, that was a good trade-off.
I can finally appreciate why people like the iPad and iPhone. The touch screen on the iPad is simply elegant, accurate and intuitive. Even small text on web pages is selected correctly nearly 99% of the time on the first try.
Some of my favorite apps so far: WunderMap, AWSodoku, ATCProHD, iBooks and iDisk. I've had a MobileMe account for some time and great to have that all sync'd up now. Loving how I can use iDisk to view my files remotely (I have lots of PDF's I use for CAP stuff).
The web browser rendering by Safari is impressive. Web sites that I thought that would not look so good come out nearly perfect on this small interface (although, it is a 1024x768 display).
I still have a lot to learn, but this is something I really think I'm going to enjoy using a lot.
