Okay, when I switch on the computer, the blue light on the front comes on, the fans come on and, er, that's it.
So, it's not the power supply or the on switch. It's not the motherboard either, as the cheap new one makes no difference. It's not shorting to the case, because currently, motherboard, CPU, power supply, video card and on switch are residing on the non-conductive sofa, still not doing much other than glowing and cooling. And it's not any of the drives, since they're all now disconnected. Every connection has been tested and cleaned.
So. It's the CPU isn't it? I don't have another machine to hand that I can test it in, but that's presumably the only possiblity. At this point, I think we're talking new computer time. Unless... any ideas?
Time for some lunch, then I'll try to find the room beneath all these bits of computer.
