the promised angels of sleep
they never came, of course
promised in a bottle, or in a drink
but never came, and still i am

sleep doesn't come when it's meant to come
to me, it seems, it's coming when
it's not meant to come at all

it comes at moments when
i'm commanding my vessel
or eating my cake
but never when it's meant to come
never at bedtime
or so i thought

why, just this morning i had a dream
while sleeping after waking after sleeping
and it was the strangest dream

i dreamed a girl liked me
because i had a sandwich
and she was hungry just in time

and i liked this girl
because she was unconventional
and owned a black dress
(it is often normal now,
to own a black dress)

and so we kissed
(while eating the sandwich!)
an action i thought meant no less
than sharing a bed

someone even tried to rob me
but our charm came through
the thief ran with my lighter
but i chased and chased
and finally yelled with a confidence,
"my girlfriend can beat you up"
and he turned around surprised,
handed me back my lighter
and a few grams of seeds

"why the seeds?" i asked the thief
the he said, "with a girl like that,
you'll need some seeds"

i still wondered and concluded
that the thief was crazy
why would he steal a lighter in the first place?

so i threw the seeds away, and went back to my girl
because she was unconventional
and she owned a black dress

they say that the world is going to end
they keep saying that over and over again

they say, "have much, much sex"
and i say, "okay, but the world doesn't need to end anyway"

a study in being an outnumbered majority

half of the slaves from africa
shipped on ships
were brought to brazil
because brazil was so big

brazil is still big
but it wobbles on its feet

the rich in brazil
have 28 times as much riches
as the poorest in brazil
the high rises
are 28 times as tall
as the crowded favelas
and the hubcaps in cars
are 28 times as shiny
as the feet of os pobres

but the rich are still rich
and somehow don't die from it
and the poor are getting poorer
and they are very much dying from it

i would always think
that the slave descending brazilians
were still the majority
but somehow they grew smaller
to maybe 7%
and the white slave owners
once outnumbered 3 to 1
are maybe 54%

and numbers are just numbers
we should learn english and see
