to not thinking too far ahead

The Job Hunt continues apace - I've widened my search to a number of web sites and print sources, and I try to apply to new jobs every day. I'm sure it would help if I knew what I wanted to do for a job, or had a career goal; but to quote a favorite musical, "How do you know what you want til you get what you want and you see if you like it?" That sums up how I feel whenever I try to imagine my ideal career path. Not to mention that I have so little work experience, and went through college without much of a plan as to how it would impact my life after graduation.

In more pleasant news, I went to see Coraline in 3D the other day!!! And it was FANTASTIC! Now, I'm not going to say that you have to see it in 3D, but you really should see it in 3D. And as soon as possible! Previous to this movie, I'd never liked 3D films very much - I always thought it was a gimmicky effect to scare people during cheap horror flicks. But the way they used it in Coraline, it added so much depth and beauty to the film! Yes, there were moments when it popped out at you, but most of it was tasteful in giving the film true three dimensionality. The animation was smooth, but still with a halting sense of craftsmanship. The balance of creepy and sweet was just perfect, and the voice-acting was so good that I forgot who was performing in it. The changes between book and film were ones that I could not only live with, but embrace. (Although I did resent the addition of Wybie just a little bit during the climax.) And oh my sweet Jesus, the music from the soundtrack!! First time in a long time that I thought "I need this soundtrack" five minutes into the movie. Oh, and for those of you going to see it, stay through the credits. It will be worth it!

In other Gaiman-related news, I also have to recommend The Graveyard Book. If you haven't read it yet, go check it out or buy it. The entire setting is magical rather than morbid, and the chapter Danse Macabre truly transported me to someplace far, far away from my couch. Not only that, when I finished reading it, I felt uplifted - as if I could go anywhere, do anything, be anyone I wanted to be, just like Bod at the end of the book. I highly recommend it if you want a compelling, fantastic read for a weekend. This was coupled with the feeling of wanting to read more, know more about the characters and their further adventures.

Welp, off to
