a step forward

The interview with the bookstore girls went alright on Friday. Afterwards, I e-mailed them my references, and settled in to wait for news.
Since I am a bit of a worrywart (not to mention waiting around the house this morning was driving me crazy), I decided to go on a long hike to break in my new exercise shoes. I wandered along a number of different trails, discovered a campground where the monks have retreats and picnics, and found a very large alfafa field, a crabapple tree, a pear tree, a plum tree, and a trail leading to the back of the abbey. The part of the abbey I wandered into was just idyllic. A beautiful still pond, with a footbridge across one of the nearby streams, wood benches propped on large stones, and beautiful willow trees greeted me. I sat and admired the pond, the beams of sunlight reflecting on the water, and the sound of the breeze rustling the trees. None of the monks seemed to be around - or perhaps they don't mind random visitors.
From the abbey, it wasn't too hard to find the main trail that would take me back to the farm. Exhausted, I wandered back into the house to find new voicemail on the phone. On checking the messages, I found out that I got the job at the bookstore! :)
This week, I will have training for 4 hours a day, before taking up a regular schedule. I am so very excited! I can have a bit of money coming in while I figure out what to do next. Not to mention, working at a bookstore! My parents think this is a match made in heaven, given how many boxes of my books are stored in the barn. ;P (What can I say? We never lived close to a library.)
I seem to be at a crossroads in life, unsure of what to do or where to go. I might as well enjoy the journey!
Now, off to bed, to fight the whippet for a share of the covers and the space. I'm babysitting the whippet for a friend, and he is very needy (as all whippets are.) Separate them from human company, and the poor things go a bit crazy. I knew one that whined and barked incessantly until her owner came back; you would think the dog would have to pause for air, but no, she could keep it up for over an hour straight.
