Spring has finally arrived here in Japan. Huzzah!
There are still nights when it is cold, and I have to use my heater. But they are fewer and fewer as each week goes by. I haven't shut off the water pipes in two weeks, and probably will not need to for the rest of the year. Now, if only the landlady would help me with my shower drain...
The weekend in Iwaizumi was wonderful. Time was spent with friends, enjoying good food, good conversation, good movies, and good games. I even got to enjoy Easter! We helped hide eggs for the Easter egg hunt, and we helped decorate eggs afterward. There was Easter candy, and the little children were so cute. We did have to give a short speech about Easter, but I didn't mind so much. It made me remember how much I used to love Easter as a holiday, and made me feel like I was home for just a little bit. Even if the children couldn't stop staring at the large foreign woman. I swear, I will never get used to the gawking here. :P
Work has been alright. I will be getting a new 'keeper' at the Board of Education, and I met him briefly today. I'm afraid I didn't make a good first impression, since after introductions I dove right back into sorting photos. But I will certainly be spending time with him next week when he replaces Mr. H.
And I finished reading Dune by Frank Herbert. I could write a five page article concerning my critique of that book, but here is the condensed review: Most Overrated Science Fiction Novel EVER. This isn't to say that I absolutely hated it. But, I do not understand why most of the science fiction community praises it to the skies and worships it as an epic masterpiece.
Off to attempt a decent shower...
EDIT: It seems that the landlady must have come by with a plumber at some point today, because I just took a wonderful shower where the water drained instantly! Hurrah! Very glad that the shower is working properly again. :)
