Forgot to do this yesterday. And I remembered as we were knee deep in the Tomb of Raithwall so I couldn’t very well just come back and post.

On Writing: Memoir of the Craft
Stephen King
Start: October 25ish?
Finish: November 14, 2010

I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes I find memoir to be very boring. But King’s is light and gave a lot of good tips on writing. My favorite three are:
1. Read a lot
2. Tell the Truth
3. Do what you love

It is also inspirational to me. It’s just like someone finally understands what I want in life and how to do it. A lot of textbooks and writing books I’ve read say that writers are professional liars. So I was ecstatic to see that King says that the only things we should do are write the truth (because everything else is wrong) and to do what we love. I loved it. This is actually the first Stephen King book I’ve ever read. Haha. But it’s inspired me to write and read more! :3 I like that he sets a limit for himself daily. I do that too, so I think I must be on the right (almost wrote write) track. <3 I feel good. I’m also reading a lot more now, that makes me really happy too. I’m thinking of getting some audio books.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Grim Grotto (Book 11)
Lemony Snicket
Start: November 14, 2010
Finish: November 15, 2010

I’m only reading this because I started the series (almost done!). I don’t know if I enjoy these books or not. Snicket has a way of writing in a way contradictory to everything we’re taught. He’s so repetitive. It annoys the life out of me. I have to keep reminding myself that these books are for a younger crowd. His books would be MUCH shorter if he cut out all the extra stuff. I swear he repeated two paragraphs in at least three different chapters. Same paragraphs. I started the next book too. I want to finish this series. Its probably good for kids, but it’s too easy to read and doesn’t really prompt thought beyond “He repeated himself again!” The flow of the story would go along much better if he stopped repeating himself and breaking into the story too. (sigh). Well, at least I can see things I hopefully won’t do.

  11. August: Empress: A novel - Shan Sa
  12. September: To Tell the Truth: Practice and Craft in Narrative Nonfiction - Connie D. Griffin
  13. October: Writing Ficiton: A Guide to Narrative Craft - Janet Burroway, Elizabeth Stuckey-French, Ned Stuckey-French
  14. November: On Writing- Memoir of the Craft - Stephen King
  15. November: A Sries of Unfortunate Events - The Grim Grotto - Lemony Snicket

I finished Little Wings today. It’s not epic. I didn’t detail everything because people who have played the game won’t need my summary of it. I just wanted to stick with the theme of family and freedom. Which I think I did, but who knows. XD Anyways, I’m slowly getting through stories. I’d like to finish Country and Heath before the year’s end. Possibly Light too. And I like mentioned earlier not really keen on the others. They’re in the list now so I don’t forget them. I’ll probably delete them though. Special crop I’m thinking of taking down all together anyways. Shadow Hearts I do want to work on. I need to reread it and see what we have going and then look over my notes! Kind of got lost.

For now, I’m going to eat and shower. Then maybe read some more of A Series of Unfortunate Events Book 12.
