Happy Birthday Mikari!
I’ve been writing every day for two straight years.
Title: Perfection
CAT: Final Fantasy VII
Warnings: Nonsensical, Reno Abuse

http://piratesboard.net/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=182&chapter=21Summary: By nature she expects perfection. It extends to her friends and coworkers. If she can do something surely you can make an attempt to be half as good as she is. If you do not, she does not promise your satisfaction or pride. Perfection does not waste time on idiots. {Happy Birthday Mikari!!} (Mikari x Reno)]
Notes:
This story contains nonsensicalness, Reno abuse, and a birthday cake.
I do not own Mikari or Hikou. I do not own Final Fantasy VII. I do own myself, Dean, and Raphael. All recognizable characters are copyright to their respective owner
Perfection:
Mikari has never been subtle. In fact I can say whenever she wants something she simply reaches out and takes it. This is her nature and I am used to it. Although I know her well, I still have a hard time fathoming some of her mannerisms. I am still floored by some of the things she does and I stand there for a good five minutes with a printed checklist as she skips off down the hall.
1. Sunday Off
2. Chocolate Cake
3. Pepsi
4. Reno
To a normal person this would look like a really weird list. This would look like the world’s weirdest demands. I am by no means normal but the list still confuses me when she hands it to me on Wednesday. My initial thought is why she can’t just put in for leave like a normal person. It takes me all afternoon to realize this is a birthday list. This is simply what she wants for her birthday and I somehow have to get it all. I can handle giving her Sunday off.
I cross it off the list and reschedule her missions to start again on Tuesday. On Saturday I decide to take care of the rest of the list. I’m not any good at baking, so I task the job to Elena. She cannot fathom why she has to make a cake.
“Leader,” Elena softly argues, “I’m not against cake or anything…but…I’m curious as to why I have to do this.”
I respond, “Because I told you too.”
She does not give me a response to indicate she has heard me. I sigh.
“Mikari’s birthday is on Sunday.”
With a smile she agrees and skips off to the kitchen to make a cake. I don’t see how the reason ought to matter. If I give her an order she should be damn honored to take it. I cross the cake off of the list. Despite Elena’s initial protest I know it will be done on time. I snag Rude and Hikou in the elevator just back from a mission.
“Ah here you two are.” I look at them accusingly.
Rude straightens his tie; Hikou simply shrugs and says, “What’re the new orders?”
Handing her some gil and a coupon I answer, “Pepsi, as much as that’ll buy.”
I hold up the list. It takes her several seconds to process it. But I know when she understands because she shakes her head.
“You and your partner can have the rest of the day off after you deliver it.” I bargain.
Rude instantly replies, “Deal”.
I hit the “one” button sending them back to the first floor, and I cross off Pepsi. As I recall I sent Reno on a mission and he shouldn’t be back until Monday. And it is now I realize that all my hard work might be for nothing. I grimace trying to figure out some way to make this work.
I catch Dean and Raphael in the hallway just outside of my office. They’re young and troublesome as always. Dean hits Raphael and the two turn to look at me as though they’ve set Nibelheim on fire.
I sigh and cross my arms. I don’t even want to know.
“We have to tell her.” Raphael encourages.
Dean shakes his head. “You tell her then.”
They argue like this for several minutes. I don’t even know when I started to tap my foot.
“Reno made us take his mission and it’s done now. We filed the paper work but I refuse to forge his name, as per his instructions! We did the work. We want the credit.” Dean blurts out. And he’s usually the first to rat out a Reno. Even when rude is sick of Reno, he’d still take the fall.
“The sign your names.” I groan in response, “how hard was that?”
I enter my office shutting the door in their faces. Raphael knocks before entering.
“He also said he was taking off until Wednesday.”
“He can have until Monday.” I reply without a thought. I assume he’s already on his way to see Mikari. At least he better be.
I open the ringing PHS.
“What Reno?”
“I got the pepsi and the cake.” I can tell he’s smiling even though I can’t see him, “Need to know if we can have until Wednesday off.”
I scoff, “Mikari can have until Tuesday, I expect your drunk ass back on Monday.”
“Leader!” Mikari’s voice chirps in, “I want Ren-cake until Wednesday.”
“No, Mikari, He’ll be taking your missions while you’re out.” I answer, “Someone needs to be here. I can’t move the others around. Since he pawned off his missions on the kids, he has some free time. As punishment for that, he’s back on Monday.”
The two start to argue.
“You told me you finished!” Mikari hisses.
Reno disagrees, “No, I told you I took care of it.”
“That should mean you finished it!” Mikari scratches him. I can tell because Reno yelps out as her nails scratch against his cheek. The PHS drops to the floor with a cloud clunk and I sigh as I don’t understand why I’m still on the line at all.
When Reno’s fighting ceases Mikari picks up the PHS, “Fine, leader. You can have Ren-cake back on Monday. But he is to come right back here after work.”
I shake my head, “Mikari, I don’t care what you two do on your own time.”
She giggles. “Will do.”
“Oh and Mikari?”
“Mhm?”
“Happy Birthday! Don’t hurt Reno too badly, alright? He needs to be in working condition.”
“Snowie.” Mikari half scolds, “I take very good care of my toys.”
We both end the call with a laugh. And I can’t fathom why I’m even allowing this in the first place. But I suppose I ought too. I owe it to her to make sure her birthday is semi-perfect. And even though I can’t offer full perfection, I can task a group of assassins to make it work as close as it can come. But now the office is really quiet. And I think I probably should have let Reno have off until Wednesday.
I text Mikari.
Keep him until you get back. I’ll make it work.
Happy Birthday, Mikari~! End.
