http://soloista.multiply.com BC106: Music in Media is a Broadcast Communication elective in the University of the Philippines Diliman, College of Mass Communication. In this course, we are trained to become professional music producers by functioning as an independent recording company. Thus for this CD, the BC 106 students worked hands-on in everything: from the auditions, recording, mixing, marketing, creative design and the album launch.
Previous batches that have successfully launched a similar undertaking include: Unplug 'N Play 2003 (acoustic), ReStrung 2004 (alternative) and Classicology 2006 (classical). These albums have garnered the support of other campuses and jumpstarted the music careers of artists such as Up Dharma Down, Kiko Machine and Pope.
This year, we have come up with an album that features 5 young solo singer-songwriters from diverse backgrounds.
THE SOLOISTAS
Five Artists. Five Different Backgrounds. One explosive album.
Myka.
One cannot help but feel giddy while driving around and listening to Myka's "Northbound". A 3rd year student of Psychology from UP Diliman, Myka grew up in a musically-inclined family who influenced her love for music. Her pretty face and sweet voice will surely send everyone humming this infectiously perfect driving song.
Peter.
When Peter starts to sing, everybody drops what they're doing and listens. This 4th year student from De La Salle University is a big guy with an even bigger talent. His song "Fly the Night Away" was composed one night when his musical brilliance suddenly struck him. No wonder many become lovestruck with this undeniably smooth and sweet song.
Chrion.
A graduating nursing student from Fatima University, this guy can definitely color your world with his undeniable appeal and charm. Chrion's song "Halaga Sa Buhay Ko" is a heart-melter and elicits praise whenever and wherever it is performed. Besides being a great singer, he can also play almost any instrument. Hearts will undoubtedly swoon over Chrion and his musicality.
Lee.
Her natural high-spirited persona is a far contrast from her soulful rendition of "My Last Day". She penned this dramatic rock song for a friend back in her college days at the New Era University. After graduating, her passion for music continues through occasional gigs and her ongoing stint at a popular radio station.
Ceres.
Diva in disguise. What more can we say? This fresh graduate from the University of the Philippines Baguio has gained the respect of her college peers because of her powerful voice. "Devoid of Drama" is but one of the handful of songs she has composed. Her strong aura matched with an incedible singing prowess will surely skyrocket her music career.
Album launch at Tiendesitas, 6pm on November 24, 2007.
