Name: Hinata Hyuga
Age: 18
PB: Rachel
Alexander
.
Sexuality? She's a big question mark, basically. She hasn't had enough experience to know either way yet, but she is actually a lesbian.
Rank: First-year student
Callsign: Hummingbird
'Superpower': The Hyuga Models are created to have superior visual capabilities, but Hinata's abilities are limited. She can assess basic human vitals, such as heart rate, cond ition of major organs, energy centers and mental health. This is on a good day, though, and even this requires concentration and focus.
Other special skills: Hinata does pilates. And gardens. Gives great hugs. And she's gotten past the Jingerfag in World of Craftiness, which is pretty beasty. She watches a lot of movies.

History: Hyuga Inc. was one of the first organizations that began altering the human genome in order to improve the human shell, and many of their breakthroughs defined the path this new...technique...has taken. They have in recent years fallen behind some of the newer, more alternative corporations, but Hyuga Inc. is still a group very much in the running which continually spits out improved soldiers. Mutants, some call them, but the Hyuga Inc. is all about sterile language. Well-qualified humans, they would say. Never altered, never improved or different. Just...well-qualified.

Only the Hinata Model (HH-0384) was never quite that qualified. She was completed to applause and great excitement, only to have a rival experiment within the Hyuga Inc. outshine her a mere handful of years later. The Neji Model (HN-0584) wasn't so different from the HH-0384, really, but his abilities made him more suited to the lifestyles they were expected to follow. The HH-0384 wasn't exactly...tossed to the side, as her development had been expensive. In fact, decidedly more expensive than the HN-0584's, which was an embarrassment the lab technicians behind the HH were hard-pressed to admit. So she was tested and experimented on, but with much less enthusiasm. To their competitors, they marketed her model as their prize, but only as a distraction as they developed theHN further.

None of the experiments are actually aware of who sired them. For an employee of Hyuga Inc., the greatest honor which can be bestowed upon them is to allow their children to become a part of the program. It helps that you will never need to worry about yourself financially ever again. It helps thatHyuga Inc. will now be your parent, and it has your back at every turn.

Many were willing to give up their children for this, including two twin technicians.

As she she aged, the HH was given more freedom than most of the 03's were. (the first two digits of a model's ID number identified who had engineered them. 03 belonged to Hiashi Hyuga, while 05 was Hizashi Hyuga's. Hiashi was Hyuga Inc.'s CEO as well as an genetic engineer.) She watched people, mostly, unsure where she fit in amongst them. Early on she realized she wasn't exactly like them. ('Them' wasn't the general public, but those employed by Hyuga Inc., which included not only the lab technicians, but also the more minor employees of the kitchens, the trainers, the drivers, the accountants, and on and on. The Hyuga Inc. trained each employee personally and they lived inside the complex.) It was difficult for her to connect with them, especially when a latent part of her abilities allowed her sense when they were frightened by her.

She didn't want to scare anybody. She just wanted to make friends.

One of the nurses at the medical wing (where the HH spent a lot of time receiving different injections and getting tested) asked her what was name was once. She was new.

The HH didn't know what to say. She was an HH-0384. A Hinata Model.

The nurse replied that Hinata was a very pretty name. She asked her what her favorite fruit was.

The HH (now Hinata, and without knowing, a step closer to an important change) had never really tasted a fruit, or at least not the way the nurse meant it. She generally only consumed a liquefied blends of different vegetables, fruits and seafood and on occasion some meat so her mouth wouldn't grow unaccustomed to chewing. To consume a whole orange, though, to slip a piece of it between her lips and bite down until its juices came through its thin skin...a foreign concept.

So the nurse took her to where she lived with the other assistant nurses, and showed her how to garden.

It didn't last very long, as the employees weren't supposed to maintain these sorts of relationships with the experiments. The young woman was sent off, and Hinata never saw her again. If she had cared enough to follow up on it, she would have learned that her nursing license had been taken away and she'd ended working at the airport.

The HH Hinata seemed strange to the people she met, but for any Hyuga Inc. model, she was pretty standard. Anti-social, reserved, intelligent, full of potential. This is what the technicians noticed and took down in their pages and pages of notes. Standard HH-0384. Standard.

She was also curious, and lonely. They didn't take that into account, really. She was forced to go out and find out for herself just what this world around her was made of. She began renting movies, downloading music, buying different online games. The latter was her favorite form of learning, as it required a completely different form of interaction with other people; anonymous, masked interactions based upon a fantasy. She created character after character, each one wilder and more prone to rage than the last.

Inside, she felt herself begin to change, but her pale eyes remained unmoving, cold. Her feelings of disillusionment and unhappiness raged like a storm against the walls of her predetermined life, but a more logical part of her understood that physically lashing out would only get her labelled as useless. There was no worse insult atHyuga Inc. than to be deemed without further use.

We're sending you to the central Leaf labs for your final adjustments, Dr. Hiashi told her one day. She had very little to pack, and Dr. Hiashi told her when she arrived to board the train she could bring nothing with her. He touched her shoulder and she was surprised by the contact, unsure how to translate it into words.

You're becoming the best you can be where we're going, he said. He believed it, and his hands told her that he wished this for her most of all. His heart was pounding, her sensors told her. The part of his brain that housed the emotional trigger for sadness lit up like a fireworks display. Hinata nodded and boarded.

Her year at the Leaf compound was...eye-opening, to say the least. She had grown used to a certain type of person at Hyuga Inc., as well a completely underground environment. Both of these evaporated as soon as she arrived. People greeted her as if she were...normal, as the fact she was an experiment didn't bother them. They asked her what she could do. They seemed to actually care.

Of course, responding that she could read them like a book if she really, really tried wasn't too helpful. Even if she explained that she normally didn't sense enough to be spying (as it could very easily overload her system, and she ended up with something akin to a hangover afterward, lasting from three to seventeen hours), some people weren't assuaged. But the fact that there was a number of them...they weren't bothered by it...

It blew her mind.

When she qualified for the program in Nevada (that meant snowstorm, didn't it), she jumped and took the chance. For the first time in her life she was developing, not for the sake of the company, not for the sake of her future, but out of her own desire to do so. It was exhilarating, even if Dr.Hiashi later informed her he had (of course) signed her up for the program as soon as space had been available. it was nice to know she would have done it anyway.
