My sister and her husband came in yesterday afternoon, and when we went to the hospital, mom seemed a little better. Her heart rate was down and stable, and they took her off the bipap while we were there. They had her in restraints while she was on it because she kept trying to pull it off and get out of bed. It is really kind of distressing to see your mom tied to a hospital bed. She's not using her whole body to breathe anymore, but she's still wheezing pretty good. She tried to flip me off, which is an excellent sign, but she's still not really able to communicate all that well.
My dad's flying out of Bay City today and should be here late tonight. I need to get labs done and desperately need to do some laundry, so I'm going to neglect my responsibilities and maybe only go check in on her once instead of a couple of times tomorrow. Neither my dad nor my sister are particularly good hospital sitters, but between the three of us we should be able to make sure she's not alone all day. It depends on how she's doing. If she's really out of it or mostly lucid it's okay, but if she's only sort of with it, I'm kind of afraid that she sees me and thinks I'm going to take her home. That's probably not so good for her, regardless of how it is for me.
And now I'm off to go check in on her and hoping that she has a different nurse today. They work 12 hour shifts, so they probably don't do five in a row. Of course, it is only Wednesday, so who knows?
