Death Doorstep but not

This past week has been a miserable week for me. It seems like when anything can go wrong, it goes wrong. I think it is lady luck getting even with me after not taking any damage in the storm.

Two Fridays ago, I started feeling bad, runny nose and achey joints. SO I started work and at 11am, I decided I'd run some errands and go home. Errands were on my way home. So I go home and relax from 2-6 and the wife comes home. We watch the news and my head hurts, my joints. I was flat out miserable so I thought. So I decide, I ought to go to the ER so I can get something to fix me up. Plus felt it was good idea to go before the Jeanne makes landfall. So I got cough syrup with Codeine and antibiotics and told, it could be sinus infection or the Flu, most likely the Flu. So I had an uneventful doped up weekend. Sommer left Saturday for auditions and she needed my help. I found myself humming to myself. I could say I was plesantly doped

So, our office was closed on Monday and I go to work on Tuesday. I lacked some energy but made it through the day. Wednesday morning, I wake up with a chest pain. So I decide maybe some fresh air will help me. So I go into the office at 6am and do some work. By 9am, I am hurting more and sweating profusely. It hurt from bottom of my chest to end of my right ribs. So, I decide to call the On Call Nurse and talk to her. Well, she and my Doc say go to the ER. Of course while I am waiting I decide to go outside where it was cooler. My Aide was so concerned, she wanted the back door open, so she can keep an eye on me. So I even looked bad.

So I decide, I am going to head to North Florida from Lake City. I take off down I-75. I admit, I pushed it a bit. Okay ALOT!! So I am flying down the Interstate and calling Sommer to let her know I am going to the ER and to please meet me. As I am driving, my finger tips start going numb. Then my nose does. That was really wierd. I get to Alachua and I think, maybe I should pull off and park the car and call an ambulance. But Noo, I am stubborn and I think it is only 12 min to Newberry road from Alachua and I am going way faster than normal, so I continue. I get to the ER.

As I walk up the ER, holding my chest and kinda truding along, knowing I got to make it the TRiage window. I was determined if I made it this far, I could make it to the window. So I turn the corner and walk in the door and out walks a nurse, we pass each other and he turns around back at me, asking me "Are you alright?". I an flushed, wet as wick and holding my chest. I could had thought some rhetorical comment, but instead, I just mumble I am heading to Triage.

SO I get to the window and I tell the lady, I am having sever chest pains. She tells me to have a seat. I am like HELLO... But she does see me quicky and as soon as she takes my blood pressure, she is on the phone to find me a bed ASAP. I end up getting sent to the registration desk for the insurance bit and as soon as I am done, I am escorted to the back and giving baby aspirn and Nitro. I started feeling better too. My pain went from an 8 to a 3. I ended up getting a chest X-ray in bed and an Ultrasound, not too mention toradol and something else. When I come back from the Ultrasound, Sommer was there and she had my shirt hanging from the Mayo stand. She said it was soaked with sweat.

Anyhow, to make this shorter, they think it was a severe case of indigestion and compounded by the Flu. So, I took Thursday and Friday off. Thursday drove to MacDill and saw my GP. Got plenty of drugs and spent the night because I was exhausted. Drove home Friday and went to sleep. Lately, I am still getting my energy back. I am gonna try to go work Monday. But gonna be a paper pusher, I think for a few more days. I still got a hacking cough and feel like I have elephant on chest. But I cna only get better. But I have never been so scared in my life than on Wednesday.

Some have asked if I felt stupid with them saying it was indigestion. BUt my counter is that what if it was a heart issue. To ignore it, could had been the end. While, I also see driving to Gainesville, was not the best idea either, I did it. But I am going to decide which ER, I am going to in Lake City, if I need to. I spoke with one of my co-workers and he feels that everyone needs to address it too. He had a good friend who was 37 went home and went to sleep with chest pains and never woke up. I still have much pain and destruction that I want to cause in the world, so I need to hang around a little longer.

Lessons Learned:
1) Don't drive to Gainesville when the pain is above 7
2) Chest pains are always serious
3) Chest Pains get you instant attention
