I have a feeling I will be struck by lightning for saying this

...but I'm going to do it anyway. Saw "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" at the Mobtown Players on Saturday. Who are the Mobtown Players? The Mobtown Players is a small -- VERY small -- theater company that operates out of an equally tiny space in the Hampden section (think John Waters) of Bawlmer. I mostly went because I had seen JCM do the part off-Broadway in three of his last performances and loved it, and had seen and loved (and bought)the movie. So what the hell? I had nothing better to do on a Saturday night, pathetic though that may be. So I went. With my roommate and my next-door neighbor. The pathetic-ness deepens.

OK, here comes the lightning strike part. I know John Cameron Mitchell created the part, I know he wrote it and all, I know he's a big theater star. Jordan Siebert's better. He really is. (Snooks ducks to avoid the fire shooting down from the sky in bolts). I was mesmerized through the whole thing. I cried. I actually cried. A lot. And I've seen this piece so many times I know where all the pauses in the dialogue -- well, monologue -- are. Just stunning. Where has this guy been? OK, I know y'all could care less about some little dinky theater company in the sticks, but it's coming back for a month in January, so if anyone's in the area, do drop in.

More later on this impending fiasco we Americans insist on calling an election, but I need to be a lot drunker for that.
