Sheff sponsor

So WSA have managed to get a sponsor for Sheff - not bad. And even one that might possibly have an interest in creating something more around it (not in the physical form of ribbons on the trophy, I think), bit of a buzz and all of that, what with them being involved in the Prem League too, which is a heck of a lot more audience-friendly than rankers.

What made me log in here was Ebbo's comment:

I've often wondered in the last few years why major companies have not had the vision and foresight to see that snooker is the best value for money sport [...]

Wha'? We on the same planet, Peter? Or is this some backward, strange way of self-praise and a gentle nudge to the other players to play as slow, so they might create more value for money via minutes pr bought ticket? If we do think of it in those terms, cricket's has to top that stat, with five-week matches or whatever they're down to these days. So snooker is relatively cheap, takes up a lot of airtime, only requires some old geezers as commentators and with relatively cheap and sparse special effects, but still... I can't understand the comment, to be honest.

According to Dave Hendon's blog it is also entirely possible that a tournie with 7 reds will be introduced. WTF? Ok, I'm normally sceptical of whatever the WSA introduces, but reducing the number of reds is hardly going to help "regular snooker" seem like an attractive sport, is it? Why don't we all just jump ship and go play pool?

Strangely enough there are quotes on worldsnooker from players who didn't even attend the press conference - and relatively few from those who did.

Oh well. The World Championship is coming up soon! Wheeeeeee :D
