"Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."
I hate this quote. I see about a billion people on facebook who think they're being insightful use it like it's their company slogan. It doesn't make any sense. The more I think about it the more it pisses me off; if it was something more than John Lennon just being a dumbass than what the fuck was it he was trying to say? I don't know how long it took John Lennon to make plans but for me it's usually taken somewhere between a few secounds and a minute if I'm trying to plan out anything longer than a month. I really don't think I'm missing much in that space of time.
I don't know why everyone thinks John Lennon was some kind of genius new-age philosopher. Sure he made some above adequate music with the beatles, but besides that his only contributions to society were growing his hair out, spouting some lines of hippy peace-love bullshit that were pretty dated even in the late 70s, and then destroying the Beatles after he married a really, really ugly Japanese woman. He had a decent amount of creativity when working within a creative unit, but on his own he proved to be a pretentious, self-important hack. There, I said it.
I'm really sick of people using quotes from a by-gone era that they know nothing about without understanding the meaning of the quote or realizing that the person they're quoting was full of shit. Alot of good music and ideas came out of the counter culture period, but a by and large part of what was said, sang, and written back then was just stoned rambling by people who perceived themselves to be bigger than what they were and thought they had something clever and profound to share with the rest of us. I don't blame the people back then for saying stupid things, but I blame people today for indulging in their stupidity. Use that fucking quote.
