Jan 11, 2008 20:50

woohoo I'm a roll today! heres another tutorial! this time you'll learn how to go...

from this:
  to this:

  to this:

.:made in PSCS3
.:Include: Color fill, Selective Coloring, Brightness/Contrast, Level, and Curves
.:NOT TRANSLATABLE (sorry PSP, GIMP, and other users)
.:lots of images so careful!

.:Remember that images vary so experiment with the settings!

.:Part 1:.

1.. Got the original picture from here at Gossip Girl Media - The End of Innocence. I resized it, cropped it, you know the whole shebangs. (I'm putting the whole image for coloring purposes)

2.. Filled the picture with a light yellow #ffff40 by going Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color. Set this layer to Soft Light and lower the opacity to 50%.

3.. Made a new Selective Coloring layer: Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Selective Coloring

Reds:  0, -100, +60, 0
             Yellows:  +100, +100, +100, 0
             Greens:  0, 0, 0, +70
             Cyans:  -100, 0, 0, 0

and that's it for part one...I liked the outcome of this coloring, he's kinda black&white while the background is green, so I decided to save this part...now on to the lengthy second one...

.:PART 2:.
*Either continue from the last one or just edit the two layers for step 1 and 2*

1.. Again fill it in with the same light yellow #ffff40, set it to Soft Light and this time lower the opacity to 80%.

2.. Add a new Selective coloring layer (it's almost the same as in part 1 but not quite):

Reds: 0, -100, +100, 0
          Yellows: +100, +100, +100, 0
          Green: 0, 0, 0, +70
          Cyans: +100, 0, 0, 0
          Blacks: 0, 0, +100, 0

3.. I thought it was a tad bit bright so I added a Brightness/Contrast layer: Layer>New Adjustment Layer> Brightness/Contrast

Brightness: -30
           Contrast: +40

4.. Another Selective Coloring layer (yes I love Selective Coloring I think its awesome):

Greens: +100, +100, 0, 0
            Cyans:  +100, +100, -40, +90
            Whites: 0, 0, 0, -100

5.. Then add a Levels layer to lighten and darken the light and dark spots a bit: Layer>New Layer Adjustment>Levels.

RBG:
                Inputs: 10, 1.12 , 255

6.. Finally add a Curves layer to make the green more green haha:  Layer>New Layer Adjustments>Curves

RBG:
                Output: 61  Input: 75
             Red:
                Output: 148  Input: 136
             Green:
                Output: 140  Input: 135
             Blue: (there's two of these)
                 Dot One @  Output: 87  Input: 86
                 Dot Two @  Output: 152  Input: 163
*for the blue instead of typing in the numbers your gonna have to pull the line once then write the
numbers, and then put it again and write the numbers for that point*

and that's it! green coloring from a blue image!

Here is the images in 300x400, you can see the color change better this way:

this tut works for the other Gossip Girl promos or other dark blue pics, I made a banner with all those promo pics and similar coloring so you can see kinda how it comes out:

Don't need to credit if you use this coloring just don't say you made it, but if you want to credit go right ahead XD. Comments are full of awesomeness. Hope you liked it...bye!
