My Twilight Saga Book Review

Mar 04, 2009 18:46

So this morning  finally finished reading all four Twilight books since I got the Twilight Saga box set as a late Christmas present back in January. I decided I'm going to do a little overall review of the books since I do have some stuff to say about it.
Anyways here it goes....

of course spoilers ahead!!

Four Books Overall: So I liked the books overall, not gonna lie its a great storyline but obvious this is no Harry Potter. I really don't like it when people say that Stephanie Meyer is the next JKR because SHES NOT. Like I said the overall story is great but the writing is not that great. JKR is an amazing author and an amazing writer. She has an imagination like no other and Stephanie is just blah. I was telling my friend that when I finished reading the 7th Harry Potter (although this might sound cheesy) I cried a bit when I finished reading it. When I finished reading Breaking Dawn, I was happy I finished these great books. Maybe because Harry Potter was basically my childhood lol, I read them throughout the years since I bought the first one when I was 12, the twilight  books where only part of my life for about 3 months.

Twilight: I read the book after I saw the movie and since I only saw the movie once on opening day my memory is kinda iffy on it, so I really don't remember what happened in the movie compared to the book, but this book is my third favorite from the series. One thing I do remember that was not in the movie a lot is the friendship that Bella and Alice end up having. They basically become best friends and that's not shown a lot in the film which really confused me since right in the beginning of New Moon, they are really good friends and that friendship evolves a lot during the series. Another thing I saw in the book that wasn't in the movie is the first kiss between Bella and Edward. The first kissed in his car not in her bedroom like it shows in the film, but whatever no biggie on that. Oh yeah I'm so glad that didn't put a lot of lovey dovy stuff like "omg Edward is so perfect" or "omg Edward is like a Greek God" it was like OK enough already.

New Moon: To be honest I try to pretend that 2/3 of this book didn't happen. I really didn't like Edward leaving Bella (although I see why he did) and I didn't like Jacob falling in love with Bella and Bella loving Jacob but not being IN love. Ugh yeah I didn't really like all of this and in some parts I really didn't see the point of it being written, like the whole them rebuilding the motorcycle (even though it could be seen as how Jacob and Bella became closer friends and her way of freedom from being depressed and sad from Edward leaving her) So basically this was my least favorite book and I wasn't fond of reading everything about La Push and the warewolves, I kinda wanted to get this book over with and move on to the next one. For the movie, I'm personally looking foward to Jasper almost attacking Bella in the biginning in her birthday andthe scenes in Voltura, Italy.

Eclipse: This is probably the best book and by far my favorite out of the whole series, I just loved it from beginning till the end especially chapter 12 where Bella wants to have sex with Edward and then Edward proposing to her. That whole chapter was just really sweet and "aww" worthy that I read it twice lol. Anyways I like how Stephanie brought back Victoria for this one and for a good reason too and this is the first time we see the warewolves and the vampires unite to fight. One thing that did frustrate me was in the end when Jacob overheard Edward and Bella's engagement news and then he got all mad and threaten Bella that he was going to kill himself in battle if she didn't kiss him, I was like ugh really? no Jacob let it go. I personally can't wait for this to be turned into a movie since there is going to be some great battle action scenes toward the end and I kinda want to see how they interpret chapter 12 in the movie.

Breaking Dawn: This book was pretty good but some things really annoyed me though. First, I'm wondering how in the world are they going to do the birth scene in the movie, that whole part when I was reading it just had me with my mouth open, I really couldn't believe what I was reading. Second is the babies name, Renesmee. What kind of a name is Renesmee? I thought it was really dumb and I was glad that the kid was not a boy because Edward Jacob was going to be even more stupider, and her middle name Carlie is way better than Renesmee. In fact Renesmee bothered me so much that instead of reading Renesmee I would read Nessie instead because that was way better and like Jacob said in the book, Renesmee is too much of a mouthful for me to read every page. I did like how all the vampires unite against the Volturi and are the witnesses to Nessie. I was in fact really shocked to learn in the end that there was another half-vampire like Nessie in the world, I wasn't really expecting that. Oh and the one thing I didn't like at all was Jacob imprinting on Nessie. I was like "really? why!!!??" personally it was just an excuse for Jacob to stick around the Cullen family, but in the he really didn't bother me and I think its because he wasn't all over Bella this time.

And that's pretty much it...don't get me wrong I loved the series. It was addicting and I couldn't stop reading them but the great storyline is there, but if the writing was better, then the series would have been much much better.
