“Hahaha! See you guys tomorrow, then!” Koki laughed. The others happily waved good-bye as they headed back to their own rooms. Koki sighed as he saw the huge lump on the bed beside his.
“Oi, Nakamaru. Hiding in that blanket’ll make you a target of the boogey-man, you know”
“There’s no such thing as the boogey-man”
“Then there’s no such thing as man-eating ghosts”
“You don’t know that!!”
Koki sighed.
He reached out and forcibly pulled the blanket off Nakamaru, showing the latter curled into a ball with his hands at his ears. Nakamaru flinched and looked at Koki’s exasperated expression.
“Nakamaru…really. There’s nothing to be afraid of, look!” he gestured to the fluffy blue koala toy that Jin had given to Nakamaru for his birthday, “Akanishi gave you that so it would protect you from the scary things if ever you and he would be sleeping apart, remember?”
Nakamaru relaxed a bit and nodded his head. He grabbed the toy from the side desk and held onto it for dear life. Koki smiled and placed the covers back on Nakamaru and patted his head good night.
Koki turned off the lights and turned back to look at the scenery at the large window. The living room in the building they were in was still lit and the rain drops added a misty effect on the dark green land. In a way, it was pretty scary to look at since it looks like something could pop out. Maybe he should draw the curtains so Nakamaru wouldn’t get scared.
Koki did just that, but left a small gap at the side, because if it was too dark then that would scare Nakamaru even more. He stretched and walked his way back to his bed, tired and ready for a good night’s sleep.
But just as he was going to lay down on the bed, he felt a lump where his blankets where supposed to be. And whatever it was, it was shivering. Koki sighed again.
“Nakamaru…Didn’t I tell you there’s nothing to be scared about?” he lightly pushed the bundle that was Nakamaru so he could sit on the edge of his bed.
“But… you closed the curtains…”
“Where’s your koala?”
“Ko-chan’s here…” Nakamaru shifted and brought his hands out revealing the blue toy.
“So what’s the problem? ‘Ko-chan’ will protect you so there’s nothing wrong, right?”
“Ko-chan is scared with me”
“Ah, you mean like owner like pet?” Koki sighed. “So, what are you trying to accomplish by coming to my bed?”
“…Will you let us sleep here?”
Koki jumped at the sudden suggestion. Jin would kill him if he found them both together. It was bad enough they got the same room, much less sleep in the same bed.
Don’t get it wrong, Koki likes Nakamaru, and they are best buds; partners in crime even, and he has no problem to sleep with Nakamaru if it would help him not be scared; but Jin would certainly mind.
Koki thought about it for a moment and seemed lost in thought until Nakamaru used Ko-chan to poke on Koki’s sleeve. “…Koki?”
Koki hummed absentmindedly. “Hmmmm?”
“So can we?”
Just then, Koki got an idea. “Mm! Of course you can!” he smiled and made a move to go back in the covers. Nakamaru breathed a sigh of relief and shuffled under the sheets with Koki.
Koki was stretching his hand to the top of the bed when he felt Maru cuddle on his chest. He smiled a bit; he didn’t know Nakamaru was so cuddly when scared. It was cute.
He draped an arm over Nakamaru’s shoulders as the latter slept on his chest almost immediately and as he leaned on the bed’s head post. Koki flipped open his cellphone and began typing at a rapid pace. With a click the message was sent and he shuffled back behind the covers to hug Nakamaru and Ko-chan.
Here’s the plan: That text message to the manager will get Nakamaru’s prince charming over; the manager knows of their relationships but is slow and will take longer to figure out what Koki’s hinting at; he’ll be asleep by then so he won’t get yelled at by Jin, then Nakamaru won’t be scared anymore, and Koki just might get his own prince to come.
Perfect.
Now all he needs to do is sleep.
A few minutes had passed when he was drifting to sleep but then he heard laughter and loud bangs coming from the other room. Koki buried his head into his pillow and tried to block out the noise, but the laughter became louder and the bangs more frequent. They screamed and yelled war cries, and Koki couldn’t take it anymore.
“HEY! SHUT UP OVER THERE! WE’RE TRYING TO SLEEP, DAMN IT!!” he roared. He glanced at the wall clock and noted several minutes had already gone by. It was about time the manager got the hint. He’d have to listen to Jin’s long, boring rants at this rate! He has to sleep. NOW!
He heard laughter in response.
“Hai~!” he heard Ueda and Kame chime. He huffed and turned back to the bed.
The clock ticked and Koki was just about drifting to sleep again when he heard loud footsteps approaching their room. He heard the door bang open which startled him a bit and in came loud sets of footsteps. Koki was getting irritated now. What’s with people and loud bangs?
“TA.NA.KA.KO. KI,” a voice sneered. Koki knew that voice anywhere.
Koki just continued sleeping, though he did let out a small irritated huff. He wasn’t too aware of the other’s anger as much as he should; he must be really tired. Either that or he can’t see him. Well, either way, Nakamaru made a great pillow, and Koki teasingly shuffled the man closer like he was his personal toy.
Things went quiet for a while, but soon he heard a few ruffles of cloth and he felt himself being gently moved to the side. He whined when he felt the ‘pillow’ being moved away from him.
Koki heard Akanishi huff angrily and strode back to his room and banged the door close. Koki figured he must’ve taken Nakamaru and Ko-chan with him.
‘This isn’t what I had in mind when I thought up that plan,’ Koki thought, a bit angry. He lost his comfortable ‘pillow’, he was feeling angry waking up from loud bangs, and his prince still hadn’t come. ‘Oh well, at least Jin didn’t know I was awake; that would’ve been worse,’ he turned to face the wall to sleep again.
Just then something warm slipped under the sheets with him. He felt himself being turned and enveloped into a gentle embrace. “Koki…”
Koki sighed a bit, the irritated feeling still there. So instead of answering he hummed in response; he knew who it was, anyway.
And he was LATE.
He should’ve come BEFORE Jin, so they could always take on the anger of Jin together. That would’ve been so much better. But it didn’t happen.
“Koki…”
He hummed again.
“Kokiii……...”
“What, Junno?” Koki grumbled.
“I love you…” Taguchi Junnosuke hugged Koki tighter.
Koki felt himself relax. He didn’t know why, but that made him feel, if not at all, a lot better.
Butbutbutbutbut BUT!, Koki thought, He’s late! He was late, so ignore him for a bit, Koki. Ignore him….
Taguchi was now stroking his hair lovingly as he lay still for a while. He stopped when Koki didn’t answer after a few minutes had passed.
“Ne,…Koki? Are you still awake?” Taguchi kissed Koki’s forehead.
…Ah, screw it. Koki couldn’t stay mad long with Junno.
Koki buried his face deeper in Taguchi’s pajama shirt. “Took you fucking long enough,” he mumbled. Koki felt Taguchi’s chest vibrate a bit as the latter laughed.
“I love you too…,” he muttered, and he felt his heart flutter when Taguchi kissed him.
They sat in a comfortable silence as Taguchi went back to stroking his lover’s hair.
“Ne, Koki,” he asked after a good 30 minutes or so had passed.
“Hm?” Koki replied groggily from his cozy position in Taguchi’s arms. He was already on the verge of sleep.
Taguchi fidgeted a bit. “What…What goal did you have in mind sending…that text message?”
Koki paused and thought about it. Was Junno being romantic again and trying to get Koki to blush by telling the truth; that he wanted Junno to come, to make him jealous; because Koki is sort of shy to say it sometimes…and Junno was such a romantic…or was he really just clueless about all this? Sometimes Koki doesn’t know whether Junno was really stupid or not. But that was one of his charm points.
Besides, he’s his lover. Though Koki said he just doesn’t know what goes on Junno’s head sometimes, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand him. He and Taguchi were best friends before they were lovers, and they knew everything about each other. They shared every secret and opinions they had with each other; and Koki was relieved not much has changed since then.
“Nothing really,” Koki answered. Junno looked deflated at that. “I just thought you looked like you needed an excuse to come see me, and that was perfect because I wanted to see you too…” Koki yawned as he close his eyes to sleep; no longer able to keep awake. He hugged Taguchi around the torso lovingly and heaved a sigh of happiness. Having your beloved hold you after one of the most rare experiences and most fun day ever was Koki’s perfect mix for a wonderful sleep.
Taguchi looked speechless as he realized the confession in those off-sided words.
Actually, Taguchi was just a bit jealous. He wanted to spend every time he has with Koki; and he loves it when Koki sends him random little message through his phone just to tell him he’s arrived in Shibuya; that he’s just finished eating; or even that he tripped on a rock and hit his face, going as far as sending his pouty face with the band aid on his chin.
So when he heard from Jin that the manager had received the message from Koki about Maru and him sleeping together, Taguchi got sad. He was jealous at the fact that Maru was in the same room as Koki, but now they shared the same bed? And he was also jealous at the fact that Koki sent their manager; their manager that text message. He would’ve been shocked either way, if Koki sent the message to him directly or indirectly, but hearing it second hand and not directly makes Taguchi sad.
He knows he’s being selfish, but he can’t really help it. He loves Koki too much. He wants to spend every moment he has with Koki.
And he’s happy that Koki understands and even accepts this selfishness of his. Usually the others would scold him and tell him to think of the other people’s feelings and not just his own, but he does, really! He wasn’t as dense as the others say. Taguchi is careful with his actions and words because he really doesn’t want to burden Koki more than he already is. Koki’s so kind enough to not push off his random hug attacks and kisses; and he even returns the actions double back. He feels sad whenever it’s scripted for Koki and the others to be mean and tease him; but it’s Koki’s hugs and smiles that cheer him u more than the others’ apologies.
Taguchi does his best to return the kindness as best he can. He thinks he’s never going to be able to return the gratefulness he feels for the other; but seeing Koki’s tinkling and hearty laughs and sweet, loving smiles and gestures is enough for him. As long as Koki loves him, Taguchi will always stay with him.
Taguchi felt tears in his eyes but quickly wiped them away, knowing Koki can sense when a person is upset and gets upset himself.
“I love you so much,” he mumbled, kissing the sleeping man lightly on the lips. “Thank you for choosing me…”
He clung tighter to Koki, smiled when the latter cuddled closer, and let his happiness, his memories, and the presence of his love guide him to a blissful dream.
