Character: Lockon Stratos [Neil Dylandy]
Fandom: Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Personality:
Neil is a pretty stand-up guy. He's extremely easy-going, caring, endearing and is shown to have a pretty good sense of humour. As the oldest of the four Meisters, he acts as a pseudo big brother to the other three, whether they like what he has to say or not. This likely stems from his own childhood, in which he was the older brother to a sister, Amy, as well as the elder of twins to his brother Lyle. Following the untimely deaths of his parents and sister at the hands of the terrorist unit KPSA -- in addition to the loss of Lyle when he moved on to boarding school in order to escape comparisons to his 'perfect' older brother Neil -- he grieved for a long time.
This grief over his inability to prevent the deaths of Amy and his parents, compounded by Lyle leaving, left Neil alone with a festering hatred for terrorism. He felt entirely helpless, and wanted nothing more than to stop such things from happening to anyone else. At some point following the aforementioned disaster, Neil was recruited into Celestial Being and was given his codename: Lockon Stratos.
Lockon acts as a leader of sorts for the Meisters, likely because he is the oldest of the group and is presumed to have the most experience piloting. During their second mission, he addresses the other three and tells them that he expects a decent performance out of them. At the same time, when Setsuna F. Seiei fails to respond to him, Lockon begins to shout at him over the com. This isn't because he's mad at him, but because he's concerned for the youngest member of their team. He later comments that Setsuna is getting too worked up during the battle, worried that the teen will get himself in a bind. Neil is visibly relieved essentially any time that one of his comrades pulls out of a tough spot unharmed. It's all a part of his nurturing personality.
In awkward situations, Lockon is generally the first to attempt to lighten the mood -- quick to steer things back to a more light-hearted conversation. When the Meisters meet for a drink, Setsuna's tardiness causes an awkward moment when he mentions that he was writing a report for Veda. Tieria Erde states that he will look over it later, Setsuna offers a non-committal reply, and an awkward silence ensues. To the rescue comes Neil, offering a grin and a laugh before declaring that he's just glad that they're all safe for now.
This situation also shows Neil's sense of humour, combined with his brotherly behaviour, when he orders Setsuna (who is 16 at the time) a glass of milk while the other Meisters drink coffee. Since milk is good for building muscles, it can be seen as concern for the boy's growth. On the other hand, the expression which he gives when questioned by Setsuna -- index finger pointed to the sky with a grin on his face as he says it's on him -- suggests that he is teasing the boy.
On the other hand, Neil certainly does take his duty as a Meister seriously. Due in part to his desire to free the world of conflict so that needless deaths such as that of his family wouldn't continue, Neil is always prepared to take action. It's a bit of a contradictory existence to some -- fighting with violence in order to eradicate violence -- but to Neil it's necessary in order to create a world in which Lyle can live peacefully.
Without a doubt, the strongest aspect of his personality, however, is his compassion for others. He's constantly worrying about everyone else, regardless of the situation. When Feldt Grace is upset thinking of her parents, who've also died, Lockon comforts her, listening to everything which she has to say. The most striking part of the interaction, however, comes when he tells her his real name: Neil Dylandy. This shows how caring he is because such information is considered confidential, and he tells her in order to make her feel a bit less alone, more important, and more comforted. His biggest displays of compassion can be seen in his relationship with Tieria, who doesn't really show much emotion to anyone until after Neil saves his life, losing eyesight in his right eye in the process. After his injury, Neil refuses to accept staying in the capsule for three weeks of healing, stating that by being inactive, he would worry Tieria, who would blame himself for Neil's injuries. When Tieria states that he is unworthy of being a Meister, Neil tells him that it's okay that he can no longer link with Veda, and that now he can consider himself the same as the rest of them. He goes on to assure him that nobody's perfect and that such is part of being human, while also calling himself a fool that acts too recklessly on his emotions.
Although much less often seen than the more positive facets of his personality, Neil does possess a dark side. Unlike Lyle, who came to terms with his family's death, Neil held on to the pain, allowing it to build into rage toward terrorists and war in general. Whenever he encounters one of these two things and is triggered, his anger manifests itself. As Lyle later states, it eventually becomes the thing that causes Neil's downfall in the end. This can be seen when he wipes out the La Eden terrorist cells with fury, stating that he was out of forgiveness and that they'd receive no mercy from him. [When he finally encounters Ali Al-Saachez, who was the one responsible for his family's deaths, he becomes so overtaken by rage and the desire for vengeance that he loses sight of what is important and eventually loses his life for it. He even goes so far as to state that he doesn't know how he could face the world without getting rid of Al-Saachez. Since he'd already lost his eyesight in his dominant sniping eye while defending Tieria from an attack not long before, Lockon truly shouldn't have been in the field at all during his final mission, but his desire to protect his team-mates outweighed his concern for his own well-being.]

History:
Over here! Everything through the section "Saving Tieria" is relevant!
Timeline: Episode 22 - After his talk with Tieria
Abilities: Neil's an expert sniper, so he's adept with guns in general. This also means that he knows how to be quite stealthy. Being a Meister, he's clearly a competent pilot as well, piloting the GN-002 Gundam Dynames, which is the long range specialist of the group. While he doesn't really qualify as an ability, Neil also has a
robot companion named Haro who aids him during combat!

He's wearing this outfit but also has on
this sexy eyepatch. (& has the adorable Haro with him! assuming that's cool with the mods, of course.)
