The other day, my mother and I were sitting in the living room. I was reading a book, and she was familiarizing herself with a bunch of paperwork for her new job. There are a lot of terms and acquisitions that she doesn't understand yet. After a while, she sat up and said to me,

"Huh...did you know the state made $35 million last year selling stumps?"

I set my book aside and sat up, "You mean like tree stumps?"

"Yeah!"

"...but don't we pay landscapers big bucks to remove stumps from our yards?"

She laughed and waved the highlighted figure in my face, "And they turn right around and sell it to someone else. God knows what for, though. It's called our 'stumpage income'."

Snicker. "I like the word 'stumpage',"

"I'd never heard it before just now."

"Me neither. We ought to try and use it in a sentence more often."

"Yes, let's!"

^^ Hee. Stumpage.
