The state-fair posse is quickly becoming more of a platoon. So let's open this to negotiation: we're pretty set on the 18th, as Coral has a limited window in Raleigh. But what about times? Is anyone set on seeing the fireworks? Do other people prefer to be home earlier than that? They typically go off at 9:45, and I know that's pretty close to

Rides = Yes
There Open to Close = No (according to the feet) I personally prefer the closing shift since I like the fireworks.
I highly doubt the ability of a platoon to stay together at the Fair. It is the hugest crush of people that I have ever seen consistently in one place milling about all day, especially towards the evening. Also, if some are into rides and others not, I doubt those who are not will want to wait for those that are considering you can be in those lines for a long time.
That being said, I am betting that a hard plan is nigh impossible. I say that we expect to pick up some people and lose some people as the day goes on. Cell phones and meeting points will be a necessity, and make sure your cell phone registers on the Richter scale when set to "vibrate my bottom" mode as I don't think ring tones will be very audible due to surrounding noise.
Scout for parking as well. I have a friend who will probably let me use her driveway, but that means we will probably use an entrance that is different from the closest to other parking. Which leads back to meeting points...the biggest one I know of is the waterfall in front of Dorton Arena, which is fairly central and easy to locate (Dorton Arena is the huge funny shaped circular building). If anyone has any other big ones, toss them up. Be wary of "The ferris wheel" though, as I think there are two.
As an aside, make sure your belongings are secure. Coral had a scare where her wallet fell out of her purse last year, so zippers or deep pockets are a must.

I'm definitely not suggesting that we all travel in a herd, or even that we try to plan anything! Right now we're looking at about a dozen people (if everyone who's interested shows) and there's just no way to coordinate that many people. The Waterfall sounds like a good place to touch base and go!
I know that I, for instance, am very excited about crafty stuff and farm animals. I could care less about games. But if we're all going, it'd be nice to try and meet up for FOOD!
