(no subject)
I mentioned some blue-penciled sketches a few days ago. Have at them:
Shaw, Niven and Adelai, in descending order. Shaw came out looking a little more Greenday than I might have liked, but I like him a great deal. He is, in all ways, the put-upon aristocrat. His default expressions are neutral and vaguely aggravated. You see that smile? That's his "WHAT eight foot tall man-lizard, ma'am?" smile.
And then there's Niven, who is a little more stylized and maybe a bit more cliche than the others. His design oozes trouble, and I think I might want to be a bit more subtle. Still, his evil grin amuses me, and his "I don't know, what DID happen to my shirt?" shrug is so over-the-top that I have to give it a green light.
Adelai's been well established for a while now, but her angry face/annoyed pout just never gets stale for me. She thinks Niven's regular smile looks nice, and isn't it a pity that you hardly ever see it. She is clearly blaming him for everything, all the time. It is not unwarranted.
"That sounds infinitely more interesting than what I'm reading."
"Of course, Adelai has the best books."
"It's true. I do."
"And she's better at scalp-massages than you are."
"That's a filthy lie, my fingers have never been anywhere NEAR your scalp in any amicable fashion."
I sketched this over Christmas. They were originally sitting on a low stone wall, and while I had hoped to include a background I am such utter crap at them that it didn't happen. Perhaps I will get off my ass and push myself? Or not.
Adelai's mouth scanned in kind of funny, and Shaw is lacking a left foot, but I'm pretty happy with the physical interaction in this one. That's always a little tricky. I'm not sure why they all look like they're wearing school uniforms, but I'm pretty sure I can blame Adelai's clothes on the Hogswatch Christmas Special and Susan's deadpan awesomeness. *shakes fist at Terry Pratchett*
I want to tell Niven that no one his age, not even a truant, gets side-snap pants, but I haven't the heart. He busts out of his clothing so often anyway. Maybe those snaps are convenient.
