Busy Busy

I haven't had much sleep the last three days, what with the packing, the driving, the unpacking, and the aboutface back ACROSS the state to Detroit. I managed to finish Deathly Hallows on the way here, and I have to say that I'm pretty satisfied with the ending. I had some serious misgivings going into it, not the least of which being that the characters seemed completely unprepared for the final battle, but overall it was very well done. Now I wait for shoebox_project to update...

Katherine and I and have been consistently buried under Erin and Quinn, who may be the most intelligent six-and-four year olds I've ever met. They made up a Blues Clues DRINKING GAME. Take a sip of juice every time a Clue is found. Their parents are so, so screwed.

I left the boys at home, under Coral's watchful eye. They're on our back porch in Yami's old crate. Rick settled in pretty quickly, to the point of deliberately taunting the dogs by running up to the screen and crying for their attention. Renault was still pretty wired when I left; he poor thing literally clung to the roof of the crate when the dogs first inspected them. He's the lap kitty of the two of them, but he wanted nothing to do with being held, and tagged Tenku's nose several times. It's a good thing I keep their claws blunt. I just hope he calms down.

I feel so guilty for abandoning them, but I'm enjoying Michigan! It's not too hot, the Murphies feed me (provided I'm wiling to battle the entire clan for access to the stove), and we went to see the Human Bodies exhibit at the Science Center. I'm sure you've heard of it; it's the one that stripped down actual human bodies to show all the inner workings of muscles, tendons, nerves, arterial systems and all the various organs in the body. It's absolutely AMAZING. The bodies still have their fingernails, eyelashes and even nose-hairs. They've been cross-sectioned, flayed and opened up in just about every way imaginable. There was even a pre-natal exhibit, displaying the various fetal stages and a few full-term babies (which, we were assured, were stillborn). I just wish I'd thought to bring my sketchbook, as I could have learned a great deal about muscle structure, hands, and feet.

Cured people-meat, by the way, looks an awful lot like ham...which we had for dinner last night. Yum.
