A friend and co-worker leaves Pitt for law school in Harrisburg tomorrow, so the lot of us here in Oakland up and went to a Pirates game. I assure you that no one is more surprised than I to hear that I went to an actual sporting event. But there's something to be said for going in a mob and poking fun at the nation's past time. It helps that the Pirates are abysmally BAD, and therefore subject to lots of affectionate heckling.
Even better, they played the SanFransico Giants tonight, which meant Barry Bonds was at bat at least three times. He's none too popular after that steroid debacle and I'd like you all to know that 30,000 booing baseball fans is an impressive noise. He never set foot on first base. I only wish someone had had a megaphone so that he could hear the male contingent of our group, law students and English majors to the last man, howling "YOUR LEGS ARE DISPROPORTIONATE TO THE REST OF YOUR BODY!" As one does when one is a law student or an English major, I suppose.
I had cotton candy. I haven't had cotton candy since I was twelve. Mmm, tooth-melting goodness.
The Pirates won, which seemed like a great (if somewhat surprising) note to send Travis off on ^_^ And it was fireworks night! The show was really very impressive, what with the fireworks reflecting off Highmark Tower across the river.
So good luck in Harrisburg, Travis! You will be missed around this place. Those of us in the apartment would be very happy if you could make it back for the drag party, but we understand that law school starts that week. Please try not to die.
