By all reasonable standards, I should be asleep. My flight returning to the States leaves at 10:30 a.m., meaning that in order for me to get there at the two-hour check-in time, I must be out of here and on the train by 7:15. ::dies

Wow, that sounds incredibly unprofessional. I'm sorry that happened to you, especially on your first trip overseas! :(
IN MY OPINION, there is a certain event coming up in the States that should not be attended.
Are you by chance talking about the One Ring Con or whatever it's called? Because if the same people are running it, that ran the con you attended...YEAH. I've been pining to go to ORC, but if it's gonna be a shambles maybe it's better that I don't.
I believe she is talking about Ringfest in Chicago.. it is being run by Autographmania.
ORC is being run by creation who has its own problems but not the same ones as Autographmania.. Creations problem is its a big business being run for money so its not very personal and very expensive... hopefully TORN will bring some character to their cons.
Gah, it sounds worse than BOBW. You have my sympathies. I'm thinking that conventions which bill themselves as being run by fans are to be avoided because they tend to use the "we're fans toooo!" thing as an excuse not to run the event professionally. I'd rather attend something which was put on just to make money but ran smoothly and well, than something which was done by other fans with good intentions but really badly organised. Especially considering the cost of most of these events.
i had heard not so good things about events run by creation, so when i went to the ORC page, and saw the creation banner, i went "oh...nevermind".
and after seeing what they are offering for the 300.00 inner circle tickets (that does not inlude meals or room cost), i definitely was not interested.
to put it into perspective, i figured it would cost me more to go to ORC than it cost me to go to LA lfor the oscar thingis (and that is including the cost of TORN, which i did not attend)

The bad thing is, if they get the guests (and it looks as if they will), people will go.
Ah well; I probably couldn't go anyway. Just as well, I suppose.
