Reasons why February this year = awesome, in vaguely chronological order:
- Christina's Rising Talents of Atlanta Show - it was great. Everybody was amazingly talented, and there is nothing nicer than going to a show where every singer sounds perfect. Even though I didn't agree with the judges and totally thought Christina deserved at least second place.
- Scripps scholarship weekend! Basically fantastic. They paid for my flight and my hotel, the weather was incredibly nice, the campus was gorgeous. They fed us every few hours, and it was all delicious. I made new friends - Mindy, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Caitlin! - who I really like and hope to see again, at Scripps or just sometime. I still have some reservations about going to a women's college, but the outlook is much better now that I've visited. The Claremont consortium is pretty awesome, and I get to go back for Claremont McKenna in March! :D
- New stripe at karate this Tuesday! This makes number four. The black belt test will be in June, so hopefully I'll be ready by then.
- Valentine's Day! This normally isn't anything I get super-excited for, but this year we decided to hand out valentines in AP lit, elementary-school-style. Chuhan brought in paper bags and we went around delivering valentines into everybody's bag. Plus we had cookie cake and some valentines included tattoos [Rachna stuck one of two eyes on my forehead and people were very curious afterward]. Today was basically the most fun Valentine's Day I've had since elementary school [I'd actually forgotten how we used to decorate little boxes and spend hours picking out the right valentines for people], and I love my AP lit class. No joke. It's awesome. Plus we can start using to-be verbs in our writing again! Exciting.
- TOKIO HOTEL CONCERT and Middlebury - hasn't happened yet, but it'll start tomorrow! I still don't think it's really sunk in yet that I'm actually going to be in the same room as Tokio Hotel and be able to hear Bill sing and take pictures of Georg and Gustav and Tom in less than four days, because obviously I haven't freaked out. It'll happen, I'm sure. Plus, I get to see Middlebury, which is still my top choice. I had an alumni interview with Ms. Stolley from Emory last Wednesday, and it went really well - I liked her a lot and hopefully she felt the same. So I'm super-excited to see Middlebury, and PLUS, it's with Allie! So it's basically guaranteed that I will have a fabulous weekend, even though I will end up missing two days of school and Ms. Moras will probably bite my head off on Thursday for missing all the black history month performances.
- STAR student breakfast - not quite as exciting as a TH concert and Middlebury, but Allie and I were invited to a breakfast with the Atlanta Rotary Club [what the hell is a rotary club?] and our STAR teachers [Mme. Francisse and Ms. Booth] next Tuesday. So we get to get up really early and drive there and be honored for having the highest SAT scores in the school and miss some school. Plus my parents are going, which is always nice.
- It's a leap year! That's just cool.
So yeah, February 2008. A good month. :)
