These have already been posted either in th_cult or th_translations and nobody on my friends list except Alma has even heard of Tokio Hotel, but I'm posting my translations of their Dream'Up interviews here so that the people I force to read them don't have to join the communities to see them. Bill Kaulitz: "Tokio Hotel is my reason for being..."
Despite the impressive success of the group Tokio Hotel, Bill Kaulitz has lost none of his fragility or sensitivity. A highly talented artist, he furthermore displays an incredible maturity for a boy of only 17. Irresistible Bill...

How would you describe your rock star life in a few words?
The first image that comes to mind is a whirlpool where excitement, joy, and stress all mix together. Going on stage, meeting fans, or being on TV, all these events bring incredible charges of adrenaline. I live for every second, and I savour each instant with a crazy intensity!

What advantage of your job do you appreciate the most?
Tokio Hotel's international success lets me travel a little everywhere in the world. Yesterday in Italy, today in France, tomorrow in Russia...I sail from discovery to discovery. It's one of the exciting facets of my job.

And what kind of constraint would you willingly be held under?
Tokio Hotel is my reason for being. I give everything for the band. As a result, my private life is practically non-existent, and moments shared with the ones I'm close to are becoming rarer and rarer.

Is it easy to cope with fame?
Tokio Hotel's success was so sudden...When we released our first single, Durch Den Monsun, on August 15, 2005, none of us expected such a welcome [reception]. Suddenly we were propelled onto magazine covers. I then discovered the sinister mechanisms of the paparazzi (T/N: literally here he says the 'scandal press,' which I take as not being the all of press itself but gossip columns and whatnot)...So many lies, rumors, or fake/shopped photos circulated through the media. I admit now that the first six months were a terrible ordeal to get over. It took me time to get used to the difficulties of public life...(T/N: here the word was 'affres,' which can be translated as 'horrors,' but I thought it might have been too strong a word)

Have you been successful in dispelling rumors?
Having passed the stage of revolting and wanting to break everything, I finished by understanding that it's useless to fight against those who make up lies. And that it's also futile to try to reestablish the truth. As soon as a denial is published, a new rumour immediately starts another scandal...In the end, I tell myself that ignoring/not being aware of gossip is the best shield against suffering. I know it now.

Have you ever lost your cool [temper] with the paparazzi?
I am lucky enough to be surrounded by a very dissuasive security crew (laughs)! As of today, no intrusions have bothered me...Still, if one of them decided to approach me a little too closely, I'm not sure I would keep my cool. With the paparazzi, I could easily come to blows! (T/N: Yeah, right Bill. We know you'd never get in a fight because you'd either lose or chip a nail or something. :P)

If you could find anonymity for a weekend, what would you do?
I would get together with my family and my friends, and all together, we'd go around town. We would have lunch in a restaurant in some plaza somewhere, just to savour the pleasure of finding anonymity, of being an unknown amidst the craziness. Then we would go to the movies, and then definitely an amusement park. I adore exciting rides! Alternatively, why not equally have a little escapade in New York? (T/N: YES COME TO AMERICA PLZPLZPLZKTHX) I would really like to discover this magical city...

What's your most distinguishing character trait?
Fundamentally, I'm very independent. Even when I was really little, I did things by myself, without asking anybody for help. For as long as I can remember, I've always chased after independence. To earn my living, assure my future, understand [come to grips with] myself, not count on anybody except myself...those are the ideas that I've always held. (T/N: What about Tom? Can't just forget your dearest older brother who you want to die with and live with for the rest of your life!)

Do you trust easily?
The lifestyle I lead doesn't let me build strong relationships. It always takes a little time to know who you're dealing with. And since I rarely stay in the same place for more than three days, I don't have the time to know if the people I meet are trustworthy. Because of this, the number of people that I really trust can be counted on one hand.

Who do you tell all your secrets to?
Two people know everything about me: Tom, my twin brother, of course, and Andreas, my best friend. I have symphathy and respect [esteem] for many other people, like good friends or certain professional relations, but I still keep a certain reserve around them.

Are you the type to hide your feelings in love?
To tell the truth, it all depends on the situation...If I fall for a girl I don't think I have any chance with, I don't reveal anything. I have my pride all the same (smiles)! On the other hand, when the feeling is mutual, I open my heart without reserve. Saying "I love you" doesn't scare me.

What kind of lover are you?
I'm attentive, passionate, possessive, and terribly romantic, too. When I love, it's always in a fusing kind of way. I need to be close to the one my heart has chosen every moment, to feel her against me, to share everything with her. Unfortunately, I haven't felt that happiness for two years now.

What is your principal seductive asset?
I'm a very open person; I always address people very spontaneously, without putting on any acts. This sense of contact generally gets me the sympathy of others.

What is your technique for getting what you want?
When something is really close to my heart, it's very simple: I think and talk about only it until I get it (laughs)! Kind of like a child, I act all nice and sweet to cajole my people. It always works!

You must suffer some refusals...
Attention, I'm terribly stubborn (laughs)! If somebody tells me no, I can keep insisting for days in the hope of getting satisfaction. Sometimes, I realize that I've gotten a flat-out refusal. In that case, I get really annoyed and in a murderous mood (smiles)...

What's the worst advice somebody has given you?
There's been a lot...I remember a friend I was shopping with who convinced me to buy a jacket he thought was "awesome." The jacket in question was actually a cheap coat, a kind of appallingly gaudy wig. I don't know what came over me that day; I must lost in the crisis of adolescence (laughs)...

What memories does adolescence evoke now?
During puberty, between pimples and physical changes, you don't feel really comfortable with yourself. I remember my style was ridiculous, my clothes were pathetic, my hairstyles catastrophic and my romantic experiences calamitous! In short, adolescence is a phase where you are looking for your identity and where you try all sorts of things before you find it.

At 17 years old, have you already turned the page on [passed through] adolescence?
Life with Tokio Hotel has propelled me into the adult world. Very quickly, I had to resolve certain problems without my parents and be confronted with responsibilities not normally conferred on a boy my age. Without noticing it, I may have left adolescence a little prematurely. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop me from bridging the gaps (between adulthood and adolescence) and acting like a real kid (smiles).

What kind of things are you referring to?
It has to do with little daily jokes too childish [immature] to be worth mentioning...And I don't want to compromise the other members of the band! Tom, Gustav, and Georg definitely wouldn't forgive me for certain revelations (wink)...

CONFIDENCE (secret)
To please Bill, it's useless to spend fortunes on priceless presents. Both sentimental and sensitive, the singer prefers attentions that come from the heart: "In my eyes, the simple little things, like a good-luck charm or a nice word scribbled on a card are the most beautiful presents," he confides. You are thus informed on how to satisfy the delicious Bill...

Tom Kaulitz: "I like the excessiveness of the rock star life!"
A boy sure of himself, a brilliant guitarist, and an insatiable seducer, Tom embodies the image of a rock star in all his splendor. Through the Tokio Hotel adventure, the young artist fully opens up to an exciting life and in this way lives his biggest dream.

What does summer vacation make you think of?
I immediately think of a remote island, the sun, a beautiful beach, turquoise water, long naps...It's more like a beautiful show/plan. (T/N: I can't tell if he means it's like a TV show or a sort of plan to follow)

Can you imagine a summer without flirting?
As far as I can remember, I don't think I've ever passed a summer without going out with one or several girls (smiles)! With Bill, we normally spent our long vacations in gigantic tourist complexes, for example on the Spanish coast. There were so many pretty girls in places like that that it wasn't hard for me to seduce some of them (wink)...

Can a summer fling last beyond vacation?
In my eyes, summer is really made to have fun and take everything lightly, especially love! In a sweltering hot environment, far away from home, you're relaxed, open to others; you feel free and without attachment since you know that at the end of vacation, everybody will go back to their respective homes. Also, I don't believe that a summer love can last. In any case, it's never happened to me.

Do you believe in friendship between girls and boys?
In principle, nothing keeps boys and girls from having strictly friendly relationships. On the other hand, I admit that this kind of relationship can deteriorate very quickly...In general, one of the two develops real feelings and wants to evolve the simple friendship into a romantic commitment. That's why friendship between boys and girls is always ambiguous.

Have you ever comforted a good friend with seducing her as your only purpose?
No, never! In any case, not on purpose...I hate manipulating people, especially if it's a [female] friend in distress. (T/N: He uses the female-specific word 'copine,' which doesn't have a real equivalent in English)

Can you forgive a betrayal?
That depends on who does the betraying...I imagine that I'm capable of forgiving everything about the three people closest to my heart: my brother, Bill, my mother, Simone, and my best friend, Andreas. For everybody else, I don't show any compassion and don't give them a second chance. (T/N: Ouch! Lucky Bill/Simone/Andreas.)

Would you hold a grudge?
Yes, clearly! I always get back at those who attack me. With me, it's an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Can you give an example?
In middle school, I settled scores with a group of nuisances more than once. I was a very disruptive student, always ready to cause trouble. Certain unscrupulous students didn't hesitate to tell the principal on me. They got seriously told (T/N: this was an idiomatic expression I didn't know and the definition I found was "severe telling-off")...I hate tattle-tales!

What kind of trouble did you cause?
Oh, nothing really mean...I was just an undisciplined student, not a delinquent. I pulled little pranks to provoke my teachers, like pouring ink on their chairs, putting glue on door handles, or drawing graffiti on the tables...

What has to be said or done to bother you?
As a general rule, I take criticism pretty well, except when it's said behind my back. Me, I like it when people tell me things to my face. I don't think I'm particularly sensitive, either. It takes a lot to irritate me. But Bill is an expert on that matter (laughs)! Since he knows all my weak points, he knows how to push where it hurts and make me lose my temper...

What situation would make you really angry?
I hate it when somebody interrupts a discussion without letting me express myself. For example, when we talk about Tokio Hotel business, if one of us leaves the room before having resolved all the problems, I have a tendency to freak out (laughs)!

What default do you tolerate the least among the other band members?
Georg's nonchalance drives me crazy! And this is a lazy person talking (laughs)! It's true, I like to get up late and be lazy on occasion, but I also do plenty of other things. Georg is in permanent hibernation. Wherever we are, no matter how many exciting things there are to do and discover, Georg prefers to sleep...

What's your best quality/character trait?
Faith in myself, I believe. It lets me go serenely on in life without asking myself a thousand questions. It also equally reassures others. It's comforting [cheering] to hang around a person who is sure of himself. As a result, the people close to me don't hesitate to call on me to get my opinion on this or that of their problems. I like playing the role of counselor (smiles).

Are you comfortable with fame?
The first hours of public life were a little destabilizing, but I found my bearings very quickly. The contact with the crowd, the close ties [bond] with the fans, and the relations with the journalists...nothing but thrilling moments. I love the excitement, the stress pushed to its climax, and all the excessiveness of the life of a rock star!

What other career path could you follow?
Music is my biggest passion, my greatest childhood dream. Today, I'm lucky enough to be living it in the best conditions. I wake up in music, I sleep in music, I play in front of a super-charged public a little everywhere in Europe. It's impossible for me to imagine doing anything else at this point.

Do you have celebrity caprices/whims?
No, it's not my style, or that of the other members of the band. None of us have far-fetched [eccentric] demands. Some sodas, bags of chips, and pizzas on a table are enough to satisfy us. We leave the extravagant caprices and processions of limos to American celebrities!

What is your fantasy of relaxation?
I like to imagine myself in the company of the people close to me, lying on a lawn in a city park, a beer in hand, looking at the sky...very simply. I don't need much to feel good: friends, a corner of nature (T/N: I'm not sure of this translation because I thought they hated nature), something refreshing to drink, and it's all good.

CONFIDENCE (secret)
A great lover of pretty girls and never stingy with crispy (T/N: yes, it really says 'crispy')revelations about his numerous amorous conquests, Tom nonetheless refuses to be labeled "womanizer." "I never go after girls, I'm too proud for that! They're the ones who come to me," confides the young man in complete humility... (T/N: Unbelievable as it may sound, in the last Dream'Up TH special, Tom did say that when he sees girls he likes he just kind of stares at them and hopes they'll come to him...)

Gustav Schafer: "I made good choices."
Behind his grumpy air, Gustav hides a personality at the same time sensitive and endearing. Alongside his bandmates, the young drummer today savors the pleasures of success. A success built around passion for music and friendship.

Is Tokio Hotel's success your most beautiful reward?
Yes. I'm happy to see our efforts paying off. I tell myself that I made good choices...Drumming came into my life when I was 5 years old, and I've devoted all my energy to it. When the neighborhood kids had fun together, me, I stayed alone in my corner banging on my drums for hours at a time. I had an inner conviction that I was made for that. The day I saw Bill and Tom rehearsing in a shed in Magdeburg 7 years ago, I had a sort of revelation. I knew that my destiny would play around [involve] them. I wasn't wrong.

Could the success ever turn your head?
I make music because it's my passion, not to shine under spotlights. Public ovations and prize-giving bring me great joy, but as soon as the curtain falls, I come back to my senses. Performing on stage or on a TV show requires a lot of concentration. If I lost my seriousness and discipline, my performances would quickly become mediocre.

Are the other members of the group just as strict [disciplined]?
We all have very different characters [personalities], but we share the same ambition and the same determination in our work. Having taken our first steps on the stage together, we know what efforts are the price of success. None of us intend to rest on our laurels and each one of us does what he has to do stay competent.

They say you're a perfectionist...
With me, everything has to be perfectly controlled. I never leave room for improvisation, even for little details that seem unimportant at first sight. For example, I systematically [consistently] set up my drums and stool in an extremely precise place on stage, always the same spot. If somebody decides to move them, even if only a centimeter, I can go black with fury [get really angry]! Other than my technical assistant, nobody is authorized to come near my drums. (T/N: Geez, Gustav! OCD much?)

Not even Bill?
Definitely not! After feeling my wrath more than once, he doesn't dare sit on my stool anymore. (T/N: Aww poor Billie baby! Gusti is scary!) When you're in a band, there are rules to follow to respect each person's freedom. When they're broken, tensions rise very quickly...

Are there ever fights among you?
It happens, but it's rare. Since I'm pretty touchy, I have a tendency to lose my temper at the smallest comment. I shout, I get upset, and I finish by disappearing for a moment. When I come back, I'm calm again, and everything is forgotten.

When was the latest incidence?
A few hours before a concert, I was checking the sequence of a series of particularly fast rhythms. It was a strenuous exercise and I needed a little warming up to get there...Just then, Georg, Tom, and Bill barged into the room chorusing, "Hey, that's not bad!" My temper got the better of me again, and I totally lost it!

Have you ever thought of just dropping everything [leaving it all behind]?
Deserting the group at the last moment would be completely unprofessional and, above all, an unforgivable offense. Our respective tempers [moods] or little frictions never affect how the group works together; it's a fundamental principle. Also, when I submerge myself alone before a concert in order to calm down, Tom, Bill, and Georg know perfectly well that I'll resurface, smiling and calm, a half-hour before the curtain rises.

Would you prefer to put yourself more in the spotlight?
I'm a naturally reserved person. As such, staying in the background fits my temperament [personality] perfectly. Unlike Bill, I couldn't stand always being in the spotlight. It's not for me, even if I appreciate my little moments of glory (laughs)! At the end of every concert, when my bandmates have left the stage, I come back to bother the crowd by throwing a gigantic ola. (T/N: I honestly don't understand what he means AT ALL. Help, please!) And this little ritual brings me a lot of satisfaction...

Do you lack confidence in yourself?
It's true that I have a certain kind of self-restraint/reserve when faced with other people, but not because of fear or discomfort. Let's just say that I'm introverted. This sometimes earns me the teasing of the people close to me, next to whom I come off as a "grouchy" and "uptight" guy (smile)...

Are you as grumpy as all that?
I have to admit, I am pretty grouchy, even sulky. An unflattering (T/N: the translation I found of 'travers de' was slanted or askew) word, an ironic comment, and off I go sulking. I'm aware of this fault, which is already a good start...Now all that's left is the heavy task of fixing it (laughs)!

Were you a loner as a kid?
Suffering from several complexes, I was a really wild kid, always keeping a distance between myself and others.

Did you have reasons for not feeling comfortable with yourself?
Life wasn't always nice to me, especially during adolescence (laughs)! First of all, it took me some time to grow up. I remember in 3rd grade (T/N: it says 'third class,' which I'm assuming is 3rd grade...the French [German?] school system confuses me) I was just barely over 1.19m [around 3'10"] (makes a face)...Also, I had awful skin problems. As soon as school ended, I ran to lock myself in my room, praying not to meet anybody on the way. I was really ashamed [embarrassed]! Inevitably, all these complexes pushed me to isolate myself and didn't help me get over my shyness.

Are you over your old complexes?
When I despaired of growing another centimeter, I had a dazzling growth spurt and grew to 1.70m (about 5'7") in just a few months. As for the pimples, they disappeared thanks to a variety of anti-acne treatments. I got progressively more confident. Today, I feel very comfortable in my skin and don't hesitate to make fun of [amuse myself with] these old demons (wink)...

How important do you consider the opinions of others?
When I was younger, I suffered a lot from the judgment of others. Happily, with time, I got over it by ignoring sarcastic remarks, and I quickly felt more comfortable. Since then, I laugh hysterically at what others think of me. Furthermore, I advise [encourage] everybody else to do the same!

Is your style something that concerns you?
Thanks to Bill and Tom, I've made quite a bit of progress in that area. Besides, it was about time (laughs)! Before, I could wear anything, like this ridiculous shirt from a trip to Val Thorens [the highest ski resort in Europe] that had a cow wearing skis on it! When I went to rehearsals with this famous t-shirt, I caused general hilarity. Georg, Tom, and Bill still laugh about it today...Since then, I pay more attention to my look. I've even become stylish... (T/N: Sorry Gustav, but I beg to differ. -.-')

What do girls like about you?
I may seem grumpy on the surface, but after a little scraping, I reveal myself to be very nice and very funny. I've also been told that I am courteous, orderly, and an excellent cook...

SOUVENIR (memory)
Gustav was 13 when he first met the Kaulitz twins. "I remember that day very precisely. I was wandering in the neighborhood around Magdeburg in an open lot. There was a shed that seemed unused...When I got closer, I discovered that it was actually the practice room for a very rock'n'roll rehearsal. Bill and Tom were practicing there. They were really young, but they were already giving off something magical."

Georg Listing: "I've had a very liberal education!"
Son of a good family, Georg was raised by parents who never set restrictions. He cleverly applied this freedom to music, his greatest passion. Such was the point of departure of his fabulous adventure with the band Tokio Hotel...

How did music come into your life?
At my house, music reigned. My parents, both doctors, didn't play any instruments, but they had a real passion for rock. My father, in particular, had an impressive collection of albums. He knew the classics such as Eric Clapton, the Beatles, or the Rolling Stones by heart. Thanks to him, I had the chance to go to some legendary concerts. The musical universe has always fascinated me.

Is Tokio Hotel your first band?
Not exactly. In middle school, I wanted to start a band with two of my friends. In the end, the project fell through. Then I came across Gustav in Magdeburg's music conservatory. We played in the same orchestra, him on the drums and me playing bass. A little bit afterwards, we met Bill and Tom and eventually founded Devilish, our first band...

What was in your repertoire?
A mix of pop, rock, and metal, we started off a little in every sense [a little bit of everything?]...At the time, we were just four kids who were passionate but unskilled(laughs)! I have excellent memories of our beginnings regardless. Even if there was nobody listening to us, on our part, we believed in ourselves like iron (T/N: not sure what he's saying here, sorry), and we fooled around like maniacs.

How did you get past the obstacle of amateurism?
The meeting in 2004 with our producers and composers, Peter Hoffman, Pat Benzer, Dave Roth, and David Jost, was the deciding factor. They believed in our talent and gave us the means of recording a great album, Schrei. Still, we never would have been able to work with a team like that if we hadn't endlessly kept performing to get noticed. We were lucky, it's true, but we also knew how to bring it about.

What's the philosophy of the group?
The Tokio Hotel adventure rests on two fundamentals: passion for music and friendship. We take pleasure in playing together, both for ourselves and for our public. In this sense, our philosophy can be summed up by the famous Latin saying "Carpe Diem," which means "seize the day."

What are your future projects?
We're not in the habit of planning the life of the band in advance. Plus, things go so quickly for us that everything is totally unpredictable! For example, how could we have imagined sparking such a craze in France? In fact, the decisions concerning the band are made as we go along. We act according to events and the demands of our public.

Is it still too early to talk of a third album?
At the moment, we're concentrating our efforts on the European promotion of our second album, Zimmer 483, and the English version of our first work, Scream. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, I would like to have a bit of vacation before moving onto anything else (smiles)...But, who knows, maybe things will come about on their own one more time?

Exactly what kind of bonds link Bill, Tom, Gustav, and you?
On a strictly professional plane, there is a lot of esteem and respect among us. On a more personal plane, our collaboration is perfect. We're not a band from a reality TV show or pre-made. We share a real history of friendship that already goes back seven years. We were kids when we men - I was 14, Gustav was 13, and Bill and Tom were only 12! This mutual past creates strong and authentic ties [bonds] between us.

Tom loves to tease you interviews - do you sometimes take offense?
(Smiles)...It's true, Tom has a knack for cracking jokes about me in front of journalists. I find it rather amusing. It's even become a game between us, and we both get something out of it. On his part, by joking about my little weaknesses, he diverts the attention and avoids talking about his own. And on my part, I like his [this?] way of relaxing the atmosphere.

Does he sometimes go overboard?
Tom is lucky - I'm very patient (laughs)! With respect to unpleasant things that could bother me, they go in one ear and out the other. I have my faults, but being touchy [sensitive] isn't one of them.

What's your best trait?
People seem to appreciate my control and level head. Whatever the situation, I stay calm and keep control of my emotions. But I also know that my impassiveness [nonchalance] annoys certain people... (T/N: lol TOM)

On the edge of the group, is there still time for yourself?
It's necessary for my stability [balance] to be able to share moments with my family and people close to me. Besides, in the group, we all need our free time, to simply take a break from work. Also, when we return to Magdeburg for a few days, each person goes off on his own. Me, I see my buddies and my brother, I go to the movies, and I forget everything else.

Who would you ask for advice?
I make all my decisions alone, without consulting anybody, not even my parents. My mother was the one who taught me to go through life according to my own instincts, even if I make mistakes...I've had a very liberal education where nothing was forbidden. My mom always wanted to let me experiment with things myself, both the good and the bad. She was convinced that I would learn from my mistakes myself.

How did you celebrate your 20th birthday?
The night of my birthday, March 31, we gave a concert in Poland. I had a very private little party a few days afterward...

What present would please you the most?
I dream of a very beautiful sports car, like a convertible Lamborghini (smiles)...

You have luxurious taste...
I admit that I appreciate beautiful things and comfort. Since I have the means to taste luxury, why deprive myself?

What are your vacation plans for this summer?
I expect to invite my family and my best friend to a paradisiacal [heavenly] place where I can practice scuba diving and golf to my heart's content.

COUP DE COEUR (soft spot) (T/N: this was an idiomatic expression I didn't quite catch the meaning of...)

In his mind, Georg considers Fergie, the singer for the Black Eyed Peas, to be one of the sexiest celebrities. He declares himself bewitched by her irresistible sex appeal. The young man acknowledges that he just has a penchant for sexy girls in general. At parties, Georg is rarely unaffected by the appeal of swaying hips on the dance floor...
