High on a shelf
sits a leather bound book
Churning
and
Yearning
It sits as in lead.
It begs stray passers
to give it a look
Pleading
and
Needing
It longs to be read.
But I keep it well hidden
back in the dark
Dusty
and
Musty
Away from stray eyes,
As I wander outdoors
and play in the park
Yucky
yet
Lucky
I’m ignoring its cries.
I think it’s too risky
exposing what’s fine
Leary
and
Weary
It might go astray.
I’d rather be safe
and keep what is mine
Collected
Protected
Hide it away.
