and then there are days like this....

Sep 08, 2004 21:12

that put all other days in perspective. I've been up since 3am but I don't feel it at all. I worked from 4:15-9am. It was good. THe people there were all very capable, very friendly, and very cheerful. The time FLEW by, and instead of having to stay until 12:45 to do deep cleaning, I decided to come back in the evening to do the cleaning. So I went home and talked with my mom a bit, and snuggled in my bed for an hour or so to read a little and have quality time with my bed (we are in a very intimate relationship). I felt refreshed and cleansed, my hair was cute, my make-up looked good. I had cute clothes on, now all of this seems silly, but that does make a slight difference in my day. I go out feeling more confident. So around 11ish I drove down to La Jolla to meet with my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TEACHER FROM HIGH SCHOOL. I visited him last Thursday but he was super busy and we didn't get a chance to talk much. We hung out during lunch and just took a fun little walk around the campus, it's weird to be there, and look out on the high schoolers and wonder what I would have looked like at that time from an outsider's point of view. I sat through his Theory of KNowledge class, similar to an Intro Philosophy class, and watched as these seniors thought through different positions, espoused their views, contemplated new ideas, and grew in their understandings of various ideologies. I watched as my teacher challenged them about things they had never thought about and how they reacted- sometimes defensively, sometimes enlightened. So then we headed off campus to just chill and stake out somewhere with air conditioning. Starbucks was our solace!

He's such an encouragement to me. He's so real, he knows who Jesus is, and though he's fought and still hesitates to call himself a Christian, he's found nothing else. But he's the real deal. We talked about the power of touch and how people react when you genuinely love them, and making a difference for good in people's lives. He's so crass and hilarious with his comments, and we share the same love of satire. I would say more but most things about this man are ineffable. But it was good, really good, to spend time with him. He's so much more than I've said, but one would have to meet him to know.

I leave tomorrow to visit relatives in Alabama y'all!
