Quarterly Class Reviewy Post

Jan 10, 2006 14:37

So I've been in school a week (as of tomorrow) and have not yet done that post I do every quarter where I make optimistic statements about the status/potential of said classes. And what would my lj be like without that post?!?

History 4c: Western Civ
Yay Western Civ post-Frenchie Revolution. Okay, so we're talking about it a little. My teacher amuses me greatly. He is SO excited about the things he's teaching, which I absolutely love in a teacher. He seems to be an odd little man, but I sort of like him. And my friend Colby is in that class with me, so we can be the two seniors in the class of many frosh/soph. Haha, oh well. My TA for the discussion, Samantha, seems nice enough, but nowhere near as cool as the TAs of yore (David, Chris, Kim, Julia, etc.). We've only had one discussion, so I won't write her off yet.

English 159: The Novel as Narrative of Moral Discovery
Reading lots of books- Great Expectations, Mill on the Floss, To the Lighthouse, The Mimic Men, A Severed Head, & Lord Jim. The teacher seems nice, talks a little too quiet, and tries to be humorous. If nothing else, I'll be more well-read. :) And after this quarter, if I take two more English Lit classes, I can get a second minor in English. Which is pretty likely.

Geology 3: History of Life
Oh how I've missed my Geology classes! This one seems like it will be pretty easy. I didn't bother buying the book since he said all his questions come from lecture, of which he posts the slides online. He reminds me of a grown up version of Long Duck Dong from Sixteen Candles . His accent is really pretty thick, which makes every time he says "icthyosaur" really funny.

Human Development 110: Study of the Contemporary American Family
I'm really really liking this class already. All of the subject matter is really interesting and the teacher is very nice. Plus she puts lecture outlines (which are basically lecture notes) online. I'm pretty bummed that I started taking HDE classes so late in my academic career, because I would love to have taken more (there aren't many offered next quarter that I have the prereqs for).

Well then, that was informational :)

So I should stop being lazy now.
To do:
Read more Great Expectations
Start working on Flora Tristan: Utopian Feminist for History & Chapter in book
Some sort of physical activity (I need to stop being lazy that way too)

classes, winter quarter, school
