Vacaville has been doing a wonderful thing for the past couple years. In memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th, Andrews Park (with the help of Healing Fields) has been covered in American flags- one for every victim of the attacks. Today, Mom and I went to go see them. While we were there, they were reading all of the names. It was very emotional and beautiful. There were flags as far as the eye could see.
They are all so beautiful flowing in the breeze.
The above panoramic was taken as 5 pictures from one spot and then put together with PhotoStitch. So literally, as far as the eye could see.
They are organized by section...
And each flag is labelled with a name. Many had short stories about the people, many of which were tearjerkers.
A little boy was quoted in the paper as saying that these two palm trees were like the Two Towers, towering over the memorial.
There was also this:
And I was like, yay! That's right we are!
Mom and I gave blood today. That's #11, which puts me 5 donations away from 2 gallons. YAY. They also said that it will take a long long time for the bloodbanks in the south to get back into working order, so our blood isn't just needed now, but will be for months. So please, if you haven't, give a little. There are people in your community and hurricane victims who are in desperate need.
