I'm trying this new thing at work where I delegate responsibility instead of just doing everything myself and ending up exhausted. It's scary. I don't like letting go of control. It's been working well so far, though. It's kind of rad. Things get done and I don't have to run around like crazy. Well, except for how I'm totally double checking everybody's work. But I'm just checking it, not doing it! We'll see how long it lasts before I'm back to just going, "Never mind! I'll do it! You just stand over there and look pretty!"
I'm still really liking Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series.
Were I to, say, want to stick my little toes into the world of Steampunk, into which books should I stick them?
Today when I was driving home from work, I was dismayed to find a cop car blocking my street. Well, kind of my street. The street I have to turn on before I turn again after ten feet and to turn onto my street. He was waving people past, but I was tired and wanted to go home. I pulled over and rolled down my window. He rolled his eyes and muttered something to his partner. I said, "My house is just right there." He said, "It'll be another ten minutes," kind of gruffly. I shrugged and decided to take the back way. I drove around the back way and finally got back to my street ten minutes later. The cop car was just sitting there, still blocking the street that goes to my street. I waved at him as I turned onto my street right behind him. I have no idea why he was sitting there blocking the road. Kind of weird.
Tucson has had 40 murders so far this year, which means we're tied with last year, our previous record, with four months left to go. I don't know what the moral of the story is. Maybe just that it's really hot here and lots of people are out of work, and people get cranky. I blame Jan Brewer. It's a pretty safe bet that if something's wrong in Arizona, it's Jan Brewer's fault. You've all seen the YouTube clips of her "debate" right? Also, you know we didn't elect her, right? She's just who we got stuck with when Janet Napolitano went off to work for Homeland Security. *sigh*
