The Good, the Bad, the Paper-y

On my third cup of tea in a very short span of time. Oh, grogginess. Thy name is Saturday! Thy middle name is work. Thy surname is known only by thy closest friends.

I still haven't posted about Sunday night. This may be for the best. As it will be long. With pictures. Fangirling. Squeeing. And how I created my perfect happy place that I go back to.

I got the OK from my professor to re-work an old paper. And rework it I shall! I just have to set it up like a research study, which is kinda what I did in the first place, and present it as such instead of a more in-depth content and theoretical analysis. I sound smart, don't I? I'm not really. I just know how to sound smart. But yeah, why wouldn't I jump at the chance to study my 30 Rock paper again? Suck it, nerds!

Where I am in terms of school ending:

Thursday 14th - Fly home. For good. (Or good-ish, for now.)
Friday 15th - I can has sleep, plz?

General TV Show Thoughts:
Better Off Ted...Was pre-empted this week thanks to Obama. It was going to be its season (hopefully only season and not series!) finale. Still, we got this hilarious video from the producers in response to the pre-empting. (For those who don't watch the show, and you all totally should!, they have fake commercials for the company before some commercial breaks during the episode - always great.)

Speaking of which, you guys have all heard that Disney reached a deal with Hulu so no more crappy ABC Player to watch shows, right? Huzzah! Now, polarsun, you have no excuse not to watch The Unusuals. (Though, the ratings have dropped below 5 mil last I read, so you may very well have the excuse to not watch if it's not available...SADFACE!)

Big Bang Theory - hilarious and great, as always. I swear, if I tried to quote these episodes, I'd have whole transcripts!

House - Perhaps I shouldn't talk about House. People seem to have liked the last episode, but I was pissed through most of it. Yes, I know House isn't a show to have a roll in the hay with accuracies, but there was just some examples of willful and apathetic ignorance in that episode. And really, show writers, just because you use Foreman as a mouthpiece for one bit of ignorance doesn't excuse you as the source -- especially if the rest of the episode shows you're just as big of an idiot as he is. (Full disclosure: I have two deaf nephews and, yes, they both have the cochlear implant. And yes the House writers seem to be oceans away from even approaching anything correct.)

Reaper - Good and true to form. It'll be sad to see this show go.

Parks & Rec - The show is still leagues better than the quality the pilot would have you assume. But it still needs work. I strongly liked - though not totally loved -- eps 2 & 3, though I wasn't feeling this one 100% -- aside from some good lines. I think that for some of the humor, the humor I'd want to see at least, to work, the audience has to be distanced from Leslie a little bit. Some of the snafus are pretty damn serious and could be extremely consequential for her. If that's going to happen, we can't like her too much are it's just cringe-worthy, not funny. And sad, even. (Like when her mom was talking about her to the cameras.) If Michael Scott on US Office was too likeable and sympathetic, there's no way I would have enjoyed the best jokes in "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" as I did. Of course, the humor could derive from some lesser things, in terms of consequences, and that might work better.

30 Rock and The Unusuals - Usual enjoyment, no big commentary here. Needed more Delahoy, though! Of course, now that I think about this show pairing, I'm kind of amused. I got some good Star Wars jokes out of one of them this week, and it wasn't the one it usually is! TWIST!

Dollhouse - I had been spoiled accidentally, so I don't know if it had me as much as some people. Without getting into spoilers, I will say that I still think this show is less cerebral than it thinks it is. This sometimes leads to overthinking and exploring things that leaves gaping holes where they shouldn't be. Still, it's good. (Better than Angel, hands down. Yeah. I went there.) I just kind of wish we could pretend the first few eps didn't exist. They were pointless and dragged. (Also, Ballard's plot should never have been A-plot territory, the occasional C-plot at the most. I get why they did it and are doing it, but past that functional level, it leaves me cold.) And the actors have gotten better as a whole. (Unfortunately, the male ones haven't really gotten cuter. Boo!)

Quick note, movie-related, we finished Quiz Show. Loved it. I get when people say, re: movies, "They don't make them like they used to." I just am always flummoxed that the "used to" can still refer to a time as near to the present as the mid-90s. Also, my God, I did NOT recognize Rob Morrow! I was like "Who is that? Who is that? Rob Morrow? How do I know that name? *IMDbs* OMG! That's Rob Morrow?"

adam goldberg, movies, tv shows, the big bang theory, school, dollhouse, 30 rock, better off ted, house, randomness, rob morrow, the unusuals, parks and recreation
